Google has published an SEO Starter Guide (PDF) and it's full of helpful suggestions/guidelines for web novices.

Though basic for experienced webmasters, best practices for elements like page naming conventions, meta tags, image alt text and linking are clear and explained in a straight-forward manner.

Small improvements in some of these areas can make big differences in web traffic and sales.

Thanks for the info. I just downloaded it and am printing it out.

That way, when I don't understand something, I can crumple the paper. Tried that with a CRT once and got glass shards in my fingers!
