We got an order for a $52.49 wedding bouquet including delivery from Great Blooms in Raleigh, NC. Looked around their website and saw references about how their flowers were fresh from the field and they cut out the middlemen - it had a familiar ring to it, so I am suspicious. Anyone know if they are a real florist?

not sure but looked to be part of a chain. The "find a Great Blooms store near you" index with states doesn't show any for Maine so they're not that great an OG yet.

They have a couple of web sites, and they do have a physical address in Raleigh and a slew of great reviews. Their info seems to indicate they're just a little place in a strip mall. I would call and chat with them. What's a $50 wedding bouquet anyhow???

It was an FTD Promise of the Skies bouquet made into a wedding bouquet. Looks like it has at least 2 stems of stargazers, 4 gerbs, asters, and yellow spray roses.
I rejected it, got a phone call, and told them I just couldn't do it for the price. I will go way out of my way for a real florist slugging it out in the trenches, but this one looked suspicious.
They list it for $52.49 plus a $9.99 delivery.

Exceptional -

You gonna make that into a wedding bouquet (and you know darn well each bloom will have to be perfect) and deliver it for $36.82?

We 'hurt ourselves' by selling stuff for too little and then expecting someone else to do all the work for even less.

When we signed up for ftd, we are suppose to abide by the rules...The rules are that we are to fill the order to the price given, less our delivery. The order for $53.00 should have been filled for $53.00 less delivery....not $36.00

Its no wonder we have so many problems...too many shops want to become millionaires on each and every order.

Here's the thing. If you're paying to be a member, you should fill each and every order to value, as long as you make a profit on it....might be a few bucks on some, more on others...but that's how you do it....otherwise, why bother paying to be a member...When recips get short changed, they might just stop buying flowers ever again.

considering wedding labor should be at least 30% then considering the 6 showing lilies (means 6 stems here @ minimum $6.50/stem) and no delivery charge?
The sending shop was way out of line. You can't fill that as shown or even similar in a bridal bouquet and deliver it for $52.49

You were right to reject.... and that shop should be embarrassed to sell that and try to send it away.

6 blooms does not equal 6 stems...most likely they are 2/3's and probably a total of 3 stems...Its not wedding work....its a simple arr that any half way decent designer can do in under 3 minutes.

it was sent as a wedding bouquet to Richard so I would assume meaning in a holder? I'm glad you can get two blooms full open on lilies without transparency on one of them. We can't here- very rarely. Either way, it was undervalued whether vased or "designed as a bouquet" without giving delivery.

He could have sent a price change request. Going above and beyond for someone could only yield more business...maybe not in a case with a d.o.g but with consumers in general.

I did a bud vase for a guy not too long ago....charge him $10 plus delivery....address was wrong. I told him i wouldnt charge him an additional delivery as long as he put a review of my shop on yp.com...he said no problem...turns out he's a gold pro down here and he's in here every month, spending a lot more than the $10 plus delivery.

The order cannot be filled 'as shown' in the form of a bridal bouquet for the price given.

Buyers expect to get what they were shown, not just 'to value'. They don't give a hoot about 'the rules'.

The $36 is the compensation the filling shop will receive. A shop should take that into account when accepting an order. In this case, it makes the request sound even more ludicrous.

Its no wonder we have so many problems...too many shops want to become millionaires on each and every order.
::BS This particular design has 5 different flower types/varieties and is for a wedding bouquet - where each bloom will be scrutinized closely. There is much more time involved than a simple drop-in bouquet.

Its not wedding work....its a simple arr that any half way decent designer can do in under 3 minutes.

I don't wanna get in the middle of anything here.. but it was requested that the order be made into a bridal bouquet... In my book.. that is wedding work.

I as well try to help out other flower shops (do not fill orders for OG's period) But I don't give my own customers deals like that... why would I do it for another shop? Everyday bouquet made into a bridal bouquet... is still a bridal bouquet... HELLO!

This bouquet as a bridal in my shop... no less than $95 and probably more like $125 delivered.

That's their marketing plan... promise them the sky, and then Fed/Ex them dead flowers...

Except... they don't even follow the rules, why the hell should we? Like parents leading by example they should *fairly* and *equally* enforce the "rules"... THEY DO NOT!

Had I received that order, I too would have rejected it. It can NOT be done at a profit, even as you say for $53.00 less my delivery of $9.95, or $43.00... no way. And I don't try to make it on one or 200 designs a week... but I will not fill an order I can not make a **fair profit** on.

I've been doing this for 4 decades... when did they change the rules? I make my % on every order or I don't make it. If I want to be charitable, it will be to the local nursing home, or the local homeless shelter, not a customer, and especially not one of an OG in any form.

And that bunk about turning off flower buyers forever, IMO is just that...BUNK!

I did one recently for a small wedding at the justice of the peace. It had three 40 cm roses, two stems of daisies (had bunch of blooms so would normally be three or four stems), babies breath, and greenery in a small holder.

While this doesn't sound like a wedding bouquet, for you or for me, I have to tell you it was cute and more importantly, exactly what was ordered. She loved it!!! She just wanted a little something. For such instances (JoP) it was appropriate.

Anyway, thought I would answer your question. :)

We've done many "home or hall" weddings....they wanted flowers, we provided them......... Even down to a nosegay of florigenes for $30. I got the biz (10 minutes of labor) Other shop wanted $75.00 (for 12 carns)

Excptnl, just for the record - I'm not a member of FTD. They sent it through Teleflora. I went to the trouble of looking it up to see if I could do it. I can do a $50 wedding bouquet, but not that one.
I still say their website makes them look like they are not a real florist. If I thought they were the real deal I would have worked with them.

They look like a real local florist. members of TF,FTD. You may want to find the price for the flowers on their website to see if they skimmed.

Mike
Being a member of TF or FTD does not automatically mean that they are a real B&M
