Word on the street reporter BOSS chimes in with the latest story...

Yes Mark, times must be tough when even order gatherers are going under.

Word on the street today is that Floral Originals by Gregory Scott has closed their doors and has possibly filed for bankruptcy. Calls to their phone numbers were met with disconnection notices, and word has it they stuck a major wire service for over $250,000.00.

Word to is, that an "un-named" SE US florist is interested in or has tried to buy their URL's, name and numbers...unconfirmed ;) and will probably have to be done through US bankruptcy court in the future, perhaps.

Florists we talked to had little to say publicly, but off the mike they were, well... almost giddy.

That's it for now Mark, this is BOSS, your floral reporter with the Word on the Street signing off.

Hold on there BOSS.... What's this we have this morning?

Floral Originals FTD Hosted Site ... Hmmm... maybe they're trying to recoup some losses?

But wait...

Floral Originals Teleflora Hosted Site Hmmm...again...

Both sites appear to be functional, maybe someone is trying to gather orders?? Maybe BOSS was fed a line of BS...

More investigation needed.... I'm onto it...

OK, so the Teleflora site appears to be offline, see first image. And the FTD site does not allow online ordering, but the listed number is for Floral Originals...but IT IS disconnected...

My question would be why are the sites still online???

HMMMM....

Entire thread reads like National Enquirer.

Definitely think that more homework would be done before these public pronouncements of unmitigated joy be made...

Just saying...

...and now two posts nominated for Thread of the Week...based on what, praytell?

A wire service getting stiffed for $250,000?

And who do you think is going to pay for that shortfall?

Wow people...just wow...

There was a florist in our town who passed away, and her site was up for months after the shop was closed!

There was a florist in our town who passed away, and her site was up for months after the shop was closed!

I've noticed this also. Two shops that I know closed several months ago still have their web sites up. I called the phone number of one of them and another shop in a nearby town answered. I told them I wanted to come into the shop and wanted to confirm the (original shop) address. That's when they told me they were a different shop but they could help me with an order.

This is probably happening all over the country with so many shops closing their doors but not their web sites. I wonder if some of them may be operating out of their homes or even becoming affiliates. Others may be selling their established web sites to neighboring florists.

Any thoughts on this?

There was a Kabloom in Asheville until January or February 2008. They closed, another florist bought the phone number and Kabloom still has placement in the Google 7-8-10 pack.

I have reported this to Google repeatedly, to no avail. It makes me think that there is something going on with Kabloom and Google that I'm not privy to.

Any suggestions as to how to really get Google to acknowledge and remove this phony listing would be greatly appreciated.

Meanwhile, the florist that bought the phone number has two placements in the 7-8-10 pack. This hardly seems fair to any of the other deserving B&M florists in Asheville.

Be sure to report out-of-business companies and address changes to G Maps, Y Local, etc... so they consolidate/correct the listings.

how do you actually "report" closed businesses? There are quite a few that remain listed for my area in various searches.
