With Christmas just around the corner I was wondering if any GTA FlowerChatters would be interested in getting together. I know that there are a lot of you out there and it would be great for a relative newcomer like me to be able to put faces to names.

If so we should kick around the most basic questions like location, timing (weeknight/weekend, November/December), venue, etc.

For the last few years I have done a get together when I went ot Toronto for the trade show.
WE usually had around 20 to 25 people. I selected a restaurant and we paid out own bill unless a guess from FTD showed up and graciously paid our meal.
I decided for the last 2 years to wait and see if anyone said anything about this get together. No response or questions from anyone about meeting and I guess people maybe didnt want to meet again. Not only did we have people from Ontario, we had some from other provinces who was attending the trade show.

If I was in the neighborhood picking up products etc, I would drop in. But to make a special trip, it would be hard for me to do so.
Now I heard that the FTD conference will be held at the same time as the January trade show. Maybe we will get more people then????
Anyway, form experience, select a restaurant, announce a date and ask for people to sign up. You will know from that response if it is possible to hold a venue.
I would also say, Nov. would be the only onth to organize something like that.
Most florist are into swing of things in dec. and you wont see a good response.

Mind,we have just lost our p-time gal so may be here alot more than not over the next couple of months..............however!!!! a few hours of fun and chat might be just the ticket tooo.....woo and hoo I say!
Any idea where and when????
Wether before or after xmas...sounds like a nice thing to do.

Ryan had the great idea of inviting Tim Huckabee since he'll be in town in a few weeks. I've talked to Tim and he could make it out on the night of Monday November 19th.

Would that work for you Ryan? And if so what do you think of our usual spot? It's probably not perfect for anybody but fairly easy for anyone in the GTA.

The spot Ryan and I have been referring to is the Jack Astors at 400 & 7. (Map)

This started out as a really informal gathering of people who get along and wanted to see/meet some more FlowerChat members but, as it turns out, there will be several interesting people on hand in addition to Ryan, who is of course an expert on websites and SEO.

  • Rick Ross & Bobby Adore from FloraFactor Marketing - a provider of customized and self-service marketing solutions for florists. These guys are very knowledgeable about e-mail and direct marketing and their service is used by some very successful shops.
  • Tim Huckabee, a well-known and highly respected sales trainer and columnist.
  • Jeff Richman of clearRoot technologies - a very interesting alternative to traditional wire services.
  • Ian Fenton of Metz - a great fresh supplier that many of you probably already know.
All of these people would like to meet as many FlowerChatters as possible and, after a few drinks, would probably more than happy to share some tips!

People will probably start to arrive around 7:00 PM and trickle into the bar area.

Have a great time all... it's Alana's birthday the next day and well... she takes precedence. Hoist one for me. A lovely Chilean red wine would hit the spot. ;)

Thanks for putting this together. I am looking forward to meeting 'the group' and sharing my stories from the road - about the shops I have seen, the people I have trained and the POS systems I have used...

Well I was ready to come also, and when I did the schedule for someone to replace me on Monday and Tues, she informs me that she has to go to Sault Ste Marie for court.
It is one of those screening for juror and she has to report.
AS I am short staffed and no one else to replace her, I must stay behind.
I was hoping to see new people and learn more.
Oh Well maybe another time....

Me too................as per my earlier post in another thread the 19th was a bad day staff wise so Marg and I can't be there either.
