Hi all,

I'm preparing a DVD on eco-conscious weddings. Who are your favorite suppliers for green weddings? I'm looking at both fresh and hard goods. I'd love to hear your thoughts. Are you finding the "green" bride to be your friend or foe?

well, green can mean a lot of things.

To me it seems if you are putting "eco friendly flowers" on a airplane and flying them half way around the world, it kind of defeats the purpose.

For our green weddings we try to buy as much stuff as poss that is grown in Colorado.

reducing your carbon foot print in such a way is a great way to be green.

I don't know if that is the answer you are looking for but, It's all I got.

BTW, We buy a lot from Stevens and Son in Arvada, Co...
I think they are in Arvada....

My brides are not eco-friendly yet. I know in their everyday lives they are but when it comes to their weddings - it's game on. Therefore, I try to do my part to minimize their carbon footprint.

We run our studio as eco-friendly as possible and I buy locally whenever possible. Not only do I want to support the environment but I want to support the US worker.

Well it is only green if it has that seal on it, and I know in my biz that little seal will kill a budget, I sell green wedding gown, that are 100 percent natural and they run 3000.00 to 5000.00 the average bride is not going to pay that, and also I think that if you sit down and do the match on the real green to the faux green for those who know what I am talking about, It will kill lots of budgets...I do what they call the faux green wedding,,,

I love it! Faux green is a new term for me. As I have gathered information, there is so much variety in what is "green".

One common denominator I have found between brides and florists alike is the desire to stay true to their values in their wedding choices.

The problem is when desire and reality don't mesh well.

well,I don't sell a wedding as being green nor any part of the business....but we try to do small things to reuse, recycle,or re-purpose things. If I go to the wholesaler I don't let them pack or wrap my flowers.I carefully take them "as is".If they deliver...the box goes back with them, and our customers are urged to bring back vases to reuse.I give them some fresh flowers in return. Every little bit we can do is well worth the effort.

I haven't had any brides ask for a strict green wedding, but I have had several ask for local and sustainable. I fortunately have access to a lot of local growers through the Oregon Flower Grower's Association, so that makes it doable without increasing the cost substantially.
