Just curious, doing my first groom in military uniform, and they are not allowed to wear a boutonniere on their uniform. We decided because of this, that the best man and ushers, although they will be wearing tuxes, should also not wear a bout.

What do you do?

The uniforms often have an array of medals or similar, so the bouts on the tuxedos would not look overly done, IMHO. Perhaps if you wanted to keep a uniform (no pun intended) look, you could do pocket-card types of boutonnieres for the groomsmen.

We have done this as well, they chose to have the groomsmen in very simple bouts of single spray rose blooms in red.

I think either way is okay; the groom in his full regalia will stand out regardless of if the groomsmen are wearing flowers or not. I don't know if there is a particular etiquette, though.

tracy

We haven't had that situation yet. My personal opinion is that the groomsmen and ushers could still wear a bout. Obviously the normal way of doing things is to give the groom the biggest bout and go smaller for the rest. So my opinion is that flowers on the rest of them won't downgrade the military uniform. I think the uniform pretty much boasts his status in the wedding ;)

Every one I have done, including my Sisters wedding years ago, the Groomsmen all had Bouts.

I'd suggest Hypericum and Blupernum to go with the Cammo Vest and Cumberbun ;)

Any wedding where ...

any uniforms are being used ..... we do not put boutonnieres on the uniforms but all the rest of the men get one.

Groomsmen should wear Bouts

We have a standing joke in the Marine Corps. If the Marine Corps wanted you to have a Wife or Bout in this case, they would have issued you one.

Facts are that, nothing can be worn on any Military Uniform which is not issued or approved by that branch.

In this case and while the soldier cannot wear a bout, the groomsmen can and in fact, should.

One thing has nothing to do with the other.

Semper Fi!

Generally in our area the groomsmen will wear boutonnieres. I also find out if the groom is changing into a tux for the reception, if so they generally purchase a boutonniere for the groom to wear at the reception.

I believe it's spelled "bupleurum" ... but it seems like there are five different names and three different spellings from all the wholesalers!

Hope this helps a little!

Michelle

(I see that others have come up with the same spelling. Somehow I missed those when I posted!)

It is burpleurum, I believe. It is a greenish yellow filler, looks kinda like lady's mantle..

I searched all of spellings suggested, and came up with the same flower each time on Sierraflowerfinder.com (great website suggested by Heather a while back).

thanks all, for your input! It is greatly appreciated. Looks like a lovely filler, I have not used it yet. (and can't wait to try it)

p.s. they are spelling it Buplerum.
