I have a Halloween Centerpiece to do in a couple of weeks for a large costume party. Wondering if anyone has any creative ideas, besides using a real pumpkin, you know something unusual and different. I am glad I have a couple of weeks to get the creative juices flowing, but any help would be greatly appreciated!

Just thought of a song I use to sing to my kids, use to drive them nuts!! He-He! " Witches, Pumpkin Heads & Black Cats, Scary Spooks and Black Bats, oh it's Halloween. Halloweens the night you dress up like a sight and give your friends a fright, look out it Halloween. Halloween night is the time when fearful things are seen, look out, look out, look out, it's Halloween!"

size would make a difference as well as formality and budget. a large cauldron would be a neat base. depending on the space, I am obsessed with a Martha Stewart idea. on her special that has been airing on satellite, she makes ice body parts and floats them in a punch bowl. rubber gloves filled with water , frozen then removed as well as a mask giving a "face" form. put a large pick in before you freeze them and you could have hands reaching out of tree branches with webs use tin cans with a "spooky" design stamped out of it hanging with votives for the floral element pin cushion protea would be cool good luck--- can't wait to see pictures

I'm in the same pickle. I do a HW/Birthday party every year. Each year a different theme. This year is Haunted Hotel which you would think is brainless. Last year was Haunted Elections, that was easy, mucho material for that.

Several pieces I made in the past were things like Pumpkins. I set one Pumpkin on a silver candelabra and impaled it with thorny roses. I cut out a face in agony, squinted eyes and a small circle mouth off set to resemble a thorn prick. Then wrapped the thing in spider webs. Pumpkins are fun to use because they are the symbol of Halloween, and the expressions you can give them are endless.

One year was Haunted Fast Food. I made a three foot wooden coffin and stuffed a life sized skeleton in it and filled it with handmade containers filled with gooey body parts like something from Taco Hell.

Hi Julz -

Think Black, Orange and Purple.... Spray tall branches black - then hit'em with some Design Master Purple.

Dangle hairy spiders

Make cobwebs from your glue pan... dip 2 small pieces of styrofoam in your glue pan. Rub the glued surfaces together briskly, in small circular motions, for 10-20 seconds, then pull them apart, like you're making taffy.

Drape these lightly over the branches, your flowers, etc.

Have a ball!

I LOVE doing Halloween parties!!!! I am attaching some pictures that may give you some inspiration. Just go to your local party store and walk through the novelty bins, there are tons of eye-ball rings, glow in the dark skeleton bones, glow sticks, grave stones.

One of my favorite things is the hot glue spider webs on branches. I have glues spider rings (with the backs cut off) into them, and hung little ghosts (erasres from the novelty bins) from them.

You could make a pseudo graveyard (not like a landscape, but just the essence of the graveyard). Cut up thorny rose stems and use copper bullion wire to make them into a picket fence...get some reindeer moss, some fiddlehead ferns and some lotus pods and start playing!

Please post what you come up with!

One of the fun things I have done for Halloween is making the old Smiley Face bud vases, but I sprayed them orange, green, and purple.......used chenille stems to make the features, Ribbons, and other things to dress them up as SCARY FACES.

An Orange one had Jack-O-Lantern features, A green one had Monster face features, I did a witch one as well.

One year I combined them all in one big design.........with faux skeletons and the like.

How big?

Bill

For a Buffet Table, party is being held in a big barn. I guess it is one of "the parties" of the year here for these folks.

All these ideas are great!!!! My head is spinning, but keep em coming! Thanks for all your help, wonderful group here, don't know what I would do without you!

Another idea I did one time.........You know those big styrofoam boxes that were used for shipping a boatload of flowers. They were lidded.....like a giant styrofoam ice chest type of thing........

Well, I took one of those, sprayed it black, divided the lid in two to look like an old coffin.......covered it with glue spider webs and other stuff.......and did a design of flowers with a faux skeleton in the coffin for a party.

Filled a playtex dishwashing glove with plaster of paris and attached it to a flat disc. Covered the disk with some kind of brown shred so the hand looked like it was sticking up from the table. Covered glove with paper towels soaked in a watery solution of Plaster of Paris - so it looked like a mummy hand. Worked in a hand tied bouquet in the fingers so the mummy hand was holding a bouquet...
