In what instances would you use the faux technique? (Bouquet holder with stems affixed to handle). Can't decide what I want to do with this Saturday's wedding. Bride wants the bouquets to be ball-shaped (like really ball-shaped). Her bouquet is all white roses (a lot of them). Brides maids are all different--one with red roses, one with blue hydrangea & one with purple lisi (if it opens and is usable--otherwise I will have to panic and find something else!). The bride wants all the treatments the same--or at least to look the same. I told her you can't tell that the faux treatment is faux. I have the gala bouquet holders standing by. What would you choose?

I use the faux-handtied method when the bride wants a very 'three dimensional' (big ol' ball) bouquet and wants the stems exposed. I don't love doing it, but it's better than worrying about snapping heads off..
Good luck with the lisi! We tent the buckets (with warm water) with plastic and put a humidifier in the room.

I was afraid you all would say that! I was starting to talk myself into just doing it hand-tied! Looks like I need to dig out the stem-lock and find a new spray-nozzle-straw-thingy! Thanks for your input!

Crossing my fingers on the lisi.....I ordered 3 bunches just for one bridesmaid--and it doesn't even need to be that big, but it will take a lot!

Good luck on the lisi, but 3 bunches should do it.
I don't know about you guys, but I have had nothing but trouble when I use hydrangea in holders. Thank God I hardly get a request for holders, but no matter how hydrated I get it, it wilts within about 8 hours. I've only tested it in holders and balls because I would never sell it to a bride unless it would hold up.
It has been fine in large blocks of foam, but not in the holders. Is there something I can do about this?

We always had problems with hydrangea, too. It's DRY here in Colorado. We do a couple of things with it- We ALWAYS use a quick-dip hydrating solution with hydrangea, and dip the fresh cut end in alum powder before placing in water. We dip in alum every time there is a fresh cut. I'll spray with an antitranspirant once it's in the holder, and after it dries, spray with a laundry starch as well. It might be overkill- but it works for us!

Yup- soaking the heads is really helpful.

pnyflr- taping stems to wooden picks helps to keep them from falling out. You're less apt to overstuff the foam, and the wooden pick will swell after a while, holding everything in place.

That's what I tell myself, at least...

Yes, it can be messy to use......but it really does work - Flora-lock spray glue - comes with the little straw.

Using the straw - AFTER THE BOUQUET IS MADE AND COMPLETE - then poke the little straw through the flowers and spray - it does drip - and it does get sticky on your hands if it drips on to them......Yes, IT is messy - But it DOES work.

After a bouquet is secured with flora-lock, it can go through a hurricane almost and nothing fall out. It will withstand a wild, wacky, and wooly bride-zilla or maid-zilla for sure.

One thing I do with the Floral Lock that makes things less messy is take a piece of cello about 3" bigger than the bouquet (square) and cut a hole in the middle just large enough to slip the bouquet handle through. I have this between my hand and the flowers while I use the Floral Lock and it catches the mess. Thought that might help someone. :)

Ya'll rock. Queen posted the thread about appreciating what you have in life, and this is one of them. Great people who want to help one another.

To keep stems from falling out - use the Rene Van Rems method of a short piece of a pipe cleaner taped (use regular stem tape) to the stem of the flower before you insert it into the foam. The fuzzy pipe cleaner expands and that puppy will not be coming out.
