We have been for a while getting what seem to be an inordinant amount of hang-ups...

I heard from another FC member today that they too are getting the same, up to 45 a day...

Just wondering if anyone else is having an "issue".....

isn't that bizarre....

I've thought about posting such a subject a couple of times, each time, backing down, thinking that I might be the ONLY one!!
Seems interesting too!!.......over a while, a "pattern" seems to emerge...
NOW, I HAVE to pay attention

We, too, have been getting and inordinate amount of hang-ups. This is very stange. I just thought in was our locale. We don't have caller ID, but maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea at this point.

We get a lot of hang-ups and do have caller ID. Most of the time the number is blocked or is a toll-free one. I've been attributing it to auto-dialers from telemarketers that hunt for open lines. The computers call and then switch over to a live person if they get an answer...but sometimes there's no human available so no one picks up on their end. Might explain some of the hang-ups.

We are not with the major telephone company in our area SBC, but with the second one McLeod. We were getting a lot of hang-ups so I called and asked them about it. McLeod's answer was exactly what you said CHR. It always shows on caller ID as either out of area with no number or with an 866 type number with no name. We added a block on our phone for telemarketers or something like that, I just can't articulate it well right now, but at the time it seemed like a really good thing. Have not had a hang-up call since that I can remember.

P.S. Ever since we switched to McLeod we have had 100% excellent service whenever there is a problem. SBC owns the last mile or so ?? of phone line and McLeod gets priority service from SBC even over their own customers. Go figure!

Same here, an average of about four a day. All have come up as unknown or private.
Interesting that so many of us are getting these kind of calls...

we get them here as well. A few, sometimes more per day. We do not have caller ID so we have no idea. I always attributed it to one of our employees kids/family members who just hang up if whoever they are trying to reach does not answer since they know we do not like them calling here unless it is an emergency.

There is a marketing firm that calls randomly, well it's computer system does anyway.. and if they hit a business number they hang up since they are trying to market to homes.

Reason I know this is we have gotten several calls and we do have caller ID. this is what the caller explained.

Here too... annoying.

These calls are increasing for us also. Our caller ID reveals nothing about them. I advise my staff to hang up after they (staff) said hello twice. That's because the telemarketer uses a computer to dial the number, then a person picks up after we answer the phone. What I really hate are those calls where the computer on the other end starts giving you a commercial. What happened with that program to prevent telemarketers from calling the number(s) we registered?

Same here 3-5 a day, no caller id.

I also attribute it to telemarketing computers.

I wouldn't. To try and see if we'd get a call center, I stayed on the phone for all the calls yesterday - no center on the other end. We had about seven seconds of fuzz followed by clear air and a hangup.

That's what we get too Audra. Such a pain.

Also, in the morning, there will be messages on the voice mail, but they'll be hang ups much of the time. Why listen to the message and hang up... a rhetorical question I know, but man what a waste of my time.
