Here's a celebratory link on the 232nd Birthday of our United States Marine Corps.

Having started at Tunns Tavern (and rightly so!) on November 10th, 1775, the great tradition of the USMC continues on.

Take the time to THANK A VET for their service to our great Country on Veteran's day!

Also, a big congratulations to Keever's Mom (aka: Sophie) on the recent promotion of her USMC daughter Abbie to the rank of Corporal. Way to go girl!

Semper Fi! Oooh Raah!

Remember Fred Shoesmith on Veterans Day

The shoesmith family were chrysanthemum breeders in england that the George Ball Seed company hired to develope new mum varieties in the 1960's. They developed the Princess Anne series of mum plants back then. They also developed standard mums (big mums, Commercials in Canada) that did well in the darkest days of winter. They named the white Mum Fred Shoesmith. There was an article in Grower Talks at this time of year about Fred. In world War I the armistace was signed but because of unreliable communications the agreement was to end the shooting at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. Between the agreement to stop shooting and the time it actually stopped there were over 100 soldiers killed. Fred Shoesmith was one of these and his reletives used his name on the large white Chrysanthemum.

I'm sure this will be of interest to our British members also.

My driver is a Marine and my former employer is a Marine, both very fine men. I will remember to say happy birthday and thank them for their service in Viet Nam. I am sure they will both appreciate being remembered...

I wanted to be a Marine.

I wanted to be a Marine when I was young. I think it was my Father who said I was Canadian and Marines were American.
I guess I was about 6 or 7.

Lots of John Wayne movies back then.

Happy Anniversary to all those who are serving, have served and will serve in the U.S.M.C.

I will watch the first part of Full Metal Jacket in your honour (honor).
