to all of you to the south of us. Hope it's a safe, fun and happy day for all of you.

Enjoy your day!

Hope everyone have a wonderful fourth of July Day!

I am wondering how many florists will be open that day in USA.

I saw some advertising of some store, but I was wondering if it is celebrated like here in Canada where all stores closes July 1?

Luc

No, all stores do not close. Many department type stores etc have special sales and events. Smaller shops may close, banks, post office, government agencies etc are closed. We are closed also. Open 7 days, but we're in a tourist area where everyone will be at the beach, or near it if the weather holds out. So we're taking advantage, and having a day off. I saw another shop that was closed today also, and they are closed on Sundays. So lucky them, they had a three day weekend. Of course, we got some funeral work for early Wednesday, and booked another wedding for August, so I guess we were lucky too!

We are in up to our necks with funerals....

I have 20 orders to fill tomorrow, plus family work for another funeral on Wednesday.

I got back from my Uncle's funeral at 2:30 today, computer was down, had to call support, at 4:00 delivering three seperate funerals all over the county.

I'm going to bed!

Good night!

Happy July 4th to our American cousins! I hope you all enjoy your Independence Day this year, it's fine looking weather up here.

Looking forward to the US fireworks, I love living in a border town.

We used to never be closed other than actually on the 4th. When Neal started working her about five or six years ago he came from jobs that always closed for the July 4th holiday if it fell close to the holiday. I guess Wednesday was the only exemption. He got us to start doing that also - no arm breaking done in the process LOL.

This is the first year since then that we only closed the 4th. All this to say yesterday the 3rd was well worth being open. I told Neal to take the day off and we'd handle it. We ended up only having one delivery but, quite a few walk-ins. Casket Spray, other funeral orders, and other misc. occasions spending towards higher end. All for Wednesday or after delivery or they picked it up. I love it when that happens!

Am closed today, just got back from our parade. One granddaughter in a fire truck, one in a stroller eating lollipops-sticky, purple colored 17 month old. We have been closed since Saturday at 2. Went in Sunday finished up funeral, delivered 25 roses to a lodge for couple's 25th Anniversary (they were driving up from Rhode Island Sunday and wanted flowers in room on arrival), delivered funeral pieces, then took a deep breath and a couple glasses of white zin! Wholesalers both told me that I would probably be the only shop open on their routes if I was open Monday, so I closed. Went to feed the cat at 10:30 a.m. yesterday morning and the main street was completely empty-it was sunny yesterday for the first time in 4 days, everyone was at camp!! Only stores open here are grocery stores, convenience stores, restaurants, and gas stations. Almost every other retail business is closed for the holiday. Would be different if there were activities in our business district. When that was done years ago (actually when I was president of the downtown merchants assn) we were all open with activities such as car shows, entertainment, association barbeques etc and it drew thousands to the downtown area. We sold lots of balloons, few flowers, and some "touristy trinkets" but it was exposure. Now the Chamber puts on a craft fair and that's it. Everything else is out of the business district or at night, so we now take the time off to enjoy with family (or take a nap).
Hope our friends to the north had a great 1st...and all friends south have a safe, happy 4th.

Funeral work funeral work......

I am finished for the day, it is 2:00pm. I am going home.....

Happy $th of July! :)
