Thanks for bringing this subject up. I've been trying to find out prices on some old wire funeral pieces I have. These are the ones florists used to put soaked moss in the cavities, wrap with string, then flowers. 1) 24 in. h x 16 in. w. gateway to heaven with gates that swing. 2)18 in. h x 24 in. w, anchor with cross. 3) 4 ft. h x 3 ft. w., basket on the bottom, wreath with musical note in the middle. I've always wondered if anybody would know, dates these were used in this industry?

Jerry, mom here in the shop say's that the one item was called "gates ajar" and these were from the 40's-50's.

They were relatively common in the Sault up until the late 70s. Sounds like a Gate's Ajar to me too.

We still have the frames , last timed we priced to do one was at least 10 years ago , would be looking for at least $300.00 . We stuff them with moss and use wreath wrap, long 3" wide rolls of plastic material like garbage bag thickness.

Jerry, can you try to provide pictures of what you have? I think this would bring out alot of discussion once everyone can "see" what your talking about.

Pictures tell a story and what florists designed with before the day's of Wet Foam Forms...Too Cool.

I have never made a gate's of jar but have heard of them. Think I'm giving away my age here. ha ha. Let us know what they say the frames are worth, that would be interesting. Wonder how much stuff I have tossed out that was worth something??? Tho you need a buyer, darn thats right, a buyer. Where do you find them that want old florist props, frames, etc. Very interesting, I like the set work, you don't see it in our area much Indiana. I think they do it in the south more.

Sorry Blue, I just learned how to turn this machine on. You know, teaching a DOG. These props have some age to them, Petal Picker is right though, to know what they are worth, you have to have a buyer.

Might be better off contacting some of the Floral design schools...

Maybe one has an archive or a museum...

if you have old frames and want to donate them

Allied Florists of Houston is working with the National Funeral Home Museum...they have many funeral displays...but no flowers.

Allied is working with them to add the history of funeral flowers also

They will be displaying the changes in funeral flowers...
