Hi - My name is Karen and I am the cut flower buyer from Len Busch Roses. I am also the corrdinator and trainer for Flowers For Kids, a fantastic organizatin that has been helping our florists (we have over 80 trained) to bring new business into their shops. The thing I like best aobut this program is that it works! Everyone who has given a class has seen some kind of business as a result of it. Some tell me they have booked weddings, been called about funeral flowers and in general just increased their visability in the community. I have been involved in the program since it was presented to us in 2006 and our florists have reached 10,000 kids in just two years. Many tell me they are asked back every year to the same schools. If you haven't seen the program, created by Ramiro Penaherrera, I urge you to take a look at it and get involved. Since it positively affects every level of our business, it is one more way to ensure our futures. I recently returned from a trip to Ecuador to see the farms that participate there in FFK and will post a bit later on that trip - it was awesome!

thanks for the welcome!

Thanks to all of you who have been so welcoming to the world of Flower Chat - to those of you who are asking about learning more about Flowers For Kids, please email to [email protected] and he can tell you who is a trainer in your area. Be sure to give him the city your do business in and your email address so he can get in touch with you. I am not kidding when I say this has done great things for the florists who work it! Have a wonderful Mother's Day everyone - more next week about my trip to Ecuador!

Karen and friends,

The next flower show in Ecuador is coming up in September. Many of the farms that sponsor FFK would love to have visitors, like you. The grower association, ExpoFlores, is putting together visits. Let them or me know if you are interested in seeing FFK in action at the grower level.

Welcome To Fc

Thanks - I was just in Ecuador in April and saw a lot of the farms that handle FFK. It was a rich and rewarding experience and reinforced everything I believe in regarding the opportunities for retail florists initially, and exponentially everyone else in the industry. The more florists involved, the better for their business! Rock on, FFK!
