Hello all! I've never done this chat thing before, so forgive me if I'm not doing it right. I'm much better with flowers than I am with a computer!

I've worked in flower shops for years and years and still love it. Doing all the regular stuff like weddings, funerals and everyday arrangements. We're getting ready for our proms right now.

How long have you been a designer and what's your favourite part of your career choice?

Sure, I'd be glad to answer some questions. I hope this isn't unusual, but I really like doing funeral work. We had a farmer pass away last week and I had several customers want me to personalize their arrangements to reflect him. I very much enjoy doing things like that.

Sorry, I made my answer sort of confusing and I didn't mean too. I meant that I hoped you wouldn't find it unusual that I like to do funeral arrangements. I work in a small shop in a small town and so we don't get a lot of large dollar arrangements to make. So, when a funeral happens that's the time when our customers will spend more and I'll get to make a bigger, more elaborate arrangement.

I have loads of UK florists who will also say their favourite part of the job is funerals. I think it's not just the creativity - which if you get work like Treen does (see her gallery shots) - is amazing, but the fact that you are saying the final goodbye for people.

Thank you to everyone, you've all been so welcoming! I've been working as a florist for the last ten years or so. I'm really happy where I work and have a great job. I live in a small rural town. In fact, my last funeral arrangement had a John Deere toy tractor in it! Thanks for letting me join!

Oh I'm so glad you like it as well! I knew I would find kindred hearts here. When I tell people who are not in our industry that I love funeral work, they look at me like I'm being morbid.

Oh thank you! I've not heard of Clermont. My town is at the very bottom of Iowa. Last year, the convention was in Altoona, right? I didn't get to go, but was thinking that's where it was.

Yes it was at Altoona. It will be there again this year. There are wonderful, speakers a trade show & design competitions to go to. Our Association also does the Iowa Master Florist Classes thruogh out the year in Cedar Rapids. We're working on somemore educational ideas for this year. By the way I'm almost as far north in Iowa as you are south.
