Hi everyone, WOW THIS is soooo refreshing!! It's unbelievable! I honestly didn't think a flower forum existed...well one that was regularly participated in. Ok well let's get on with it.

I'm Aileen, I am a May 2007 graduate of the Floral Design Institute. Shortly after I moved from IL to CA and have been actively trying to find an entry level position...VERY HARD!

I am the proud wife of a U.S. Marine and we have 3 great kids! We've been together for 17 years...married 13 years. Well more later as I hear the kiddos starting to get on each others nerves!! Gotta run! :hammer:

Hi Aileen,
Welcome to flowerchat. Which Floral Design Institute - there are so many with similar sounding names.... And have you worked in a florist at all since taking your classes? Also, what is it that you hope to gain from being a member here, and what is it that you have to offer the other members here?
:)
thanks!

Hello Aileen,

You will find Flower Chat to be a wonderful place to echange ideas. What kind of entry level position are you seeking? What type of shop?

Heello Tracy, Thanks for the welcome. Floral Design Institute in Seattle, WA. I took their long distance floral design course(with hubby's schedule it was the only way). I did work in a VERY small shop a few months after arriving in CA. Let's just say it was defintiely a learning experience in the way of my now knowing what type of shop and person I'd like to work with.
What I hope to gain is fellowship...chatting amongst peers who know the field and can undestand that part of me. I offer undying support, constructive criticism, a can do attitude and most of all friendship.:thumbsup

Barb,
Thank you for the welcome! Well I am hoping to achieve a floral design assistant position that will enable me to learn as well as practice my hands at designing. Type of shop...hmmm....something that has a broad range of design not really particular too much....don't want to narrow my view just yet on a specific type of design work. I'm just eager to get my hands in the trenches!!

Semper Fi Aileen!

Welcome to Flower Chat Aileen.

Be sure to give YOUR MARINE a big fat kiss from all of us on FC and THANK HIM for HIS SERVICE to our Country. :usflag:

Some of us OLD SALTS from the 2nd MAR DIV stationed at Camp Lejeune on the East Coast back in 1966/1967 referred to our West Coast counterparts in the 1st MAR DIV stationed at Camp Pendleton, as the Hollywood Marines.

Being the wife of a MARINE isn't easy, and so, you've earned four HASH MARKS for your seventeen years of service too!

Can't begin to tell you just how much I miss the SOS in the mornings or the C-RATS out in the boondocks, except for the HAM and LIMA BEANS. lol

GOD BLESS!
LCpl TOTO 0311 Grunt/Groundpounder in the GREEN MACHINE (aka:John)

LCpl. TOTO,

THANK YOU for the very warm welcome. I will surely let him know. Yes, I do know what you are talking about. Well actually I've earned 3 hash marks since he's been in almost 14 years. Right?? Hash mark for every 4?? if I remember correctly!!LOL!!
He was originally with 3rd MAR Div in Hawaii, then we got CA, then IL and fast forward he's now a Career Recruiter. He is an instructor and trains Marines to be canvassing recruiters. He is soooo in his element!! We are stationed at MCRD right now. LOVE IT!!!

My goal, TOTO, is to hopefully one day open a shop and have it established so by the time he retires he can take his time deciding on what his next move will be. I don't want him to have to worry so much about providing for us at that point since he'd have done it for 20+years by then. I'd like to share the load and why not do something I am passionate about...plus it feeds the creative beast inside me!!!

THANKS AGAIN!!!

Ok My apologies! I just realized there was a format to the new member intro post I was supposed to follow. So I am including it here!

Business: Aspiring Designer/Shop Owner

Location: currently stationed in San Diego,CA.... want to own in Illinois

Type of Business: Other for now

About Me: I am currently a Managing Representative with Jordan Essentials. It is a direct sales bath & body company made in the USA. I joined JE five years ago to help fund my dreams of educating myself on floral design and becoming a shop owner.

I got into floral design simply by realizing this was something I wanted since I was a teenager. Finally after all the years of supporting my hubby's career I decided I need to start pursuing my dreams. Which I hope it will be successful enough to support the family by the time he retires!
