I know I've seen something on here about the mechanics of floating flowers in a pool but can't find it. Anyone have any words of advice or photos to share or know a website that would help?

Thanks!

One quick simple idea for a pool float design that looks fantastic, easy to do, will float, and minimal fuss and product.

Take several different sizes of styrofoam wreath rings......Glue them into a nice shape...either a cross, triangle, line, etc. with lengths of rivercane or bamboo. The largest ring is in the center. PLace a smaller circle of styrofoam - not a wreath - and center that with peices of bambo or rivercane.

Wrap the styrofoam with Green Ti Leaves ( remove the center spine so they will be flexible )......Or really any type of broad leaf ( Aspidistra, Ti Leaf, Spath leaf from older peace lilys, etc ) Then Glue a dish with Oasis On the Center Pad and arrange a linear design using tropicals ( Doesn't have to be a large design or loaded with tropicals unless you just want to )

See the attached illustration for a diagram of one possible placement.

Basically, the outer rings act as outriggers to help balance the center area where the biggest amount of weight is. The larger the design, the more or larger outriggers you will need. Just experiement and have fun with it.

jstall4,

I have some advice.

Use large sheets of Styrofoam, and cover it with large leaves such as monstera. You can pin oasis directly onto the Styrofoam then add your flowers. You can even set votive candles on the styrofoam around the leaves.

Several things to keep in mind. Use much, much more styrofoam than you think you will need. It's easy to cover with leaves, and will give your arrangement a beautiful large lily pad look Unlike most arrangements, pool arrangements you will actually be looking down on.

You will also need some sort of fishing line to anchor your arrangement to the bottom of the pool. Otherwise your arrangement will slowly float to one end of the pool and stay there.

One time I made a large floating arrangement with glads. It looked beautiful, but it was anchored near a fountain. The mist from the fountain eventually collected enough water in the glad florets that slowly the arrangement became too top heavy, and all of a sudden it flipped, looking good only if you were a scuba diver. So I can't emphasize enough the amount of Styrofoam to use needs to be large, unless of course you want to build the Titanic, like I did.

Good advice above. RWK beat me to the post.
