I love this project and would appreciate your help!
We have a Fourth of July celebration in Merriam, Kansas (suburb of Kansas City, Missouri) where we display over 3,000 American flags in our city. As a part of that celebration, we began "Of Thee We Sing" three years ago.
We want EVERYONE to sing our National Anthem together at 2:00 PM Central time. It's our belief that for 1.5 minutes each year we can all agree that we are blessed and happy to live where we can freely express our diverse opinions and should thank those who protect our freedoms.
We don't need money . . .it doesn't cost anything to sing! What I'm asking for is your help to spread the word. If you are active in your Chamber of Commerce, ask them to participate. Let your friends and relatives know about it.We also ask local radio stations to play the Star Spangled Banner at 2:00 CT and to make on-air announcements.
I know it's a little early to break out the hot dogs, apple pie and beer, but it takes some time to make contacts and spread it around.
We have several cities who have issued proclamations and centered their July 4th activities around OTWS.
This year the 35th Infantry Division Band will be performing and leading the singing! (There are 12,000 residents in Merriam.)
We had a call last year that the soldiers at the Kaiserslaughtern base in Germany got up at the correct time and sang with us!
Please visit our website, www.oftheewesing.org for more information. Look at the 2006 Guestbook archives as well (I don't know what happened to those from 2007 and 2008--they disappeared!)
Toward the end of May we send out a "pass it on" e-mail and any of you who would like to receive it to send around can PM or e-mail me with your e-mail address and I'll see to it you receive it.
I'd really appreciate all your special FC help to make this grow into an annual tradition!
For all of you who are not in the U.S . . .you are welcome to sing too! Or let any Americans in your locales know about OTWS.
Thanks a bunch! God Bless America.
