I have attached a pic of a cascading bouquet I will be doing in two weeks. Cascading just does not come natural to me and either does designing in a bouquet holder. 99.9% of my brides want hand-tied.
Is there any way to construct this bouquet as a hand-tied?
Thanks !

Yes you can, but doing a hand tied cascade style takes some practice... That particular bouquet would be way easier in a holder just because of the flowers used...you would have to wire and tape all of the alstro blossoms to get the placement with handtied..you would probably need to wire and tape the whole tail to get that look...

The trick with bouquet holders is BALANCE. The VAST majority of bouquet holders do not distribute the weight of the flowers in such a manner as to make it easy for the bride to hold, My workaround that is to use a flat handle bouquet holder INVERTED. Simply turn your bouquet holder so the handle is HORIZONTAL and not verticle. The bright cups the bouquet holder as close to the flowers as possible, this places all the weight in the cup of the hand and makes it easier to hold. SEE THE ATTACHED PICTURE. The red line shows where the handle is when the bouquet holder is held with the handle pointing down......the black line shows it pointing horizontal.

I used to do mine that way too, Ricky. The other thing is make SURE you use flora-lock. I actually used to wire and tape the cascade part and then run a couple of corsage pins horizontally from one plastic rib to the next, I was so afraid it would slip out going down the aisle.

For that bouquet I would use any of the slant handle bouqet holders...and Ricky is right the bouquets are much more comfortable to hold when done his way..however there are rounded slant nadle boquet holders now that are much more comfy and they even have one with a thumb loop to get an extra handle on it...

Lomey BHO is one that I am very comfortable with or the Extra large BHO...

There is also the new extra large Gala Holder and it is awesome, you can do most any type of bouquet in it since about 90% of the foam is accessible, not really a bottom to it, but it does have a straight handle. You can probably find a video of it on J's Ubloom videos. I always add an extra wire to the longest most pieces and after I have inserted those the wire comes out the back side of the holder and I loop that around to anchor the stem down. Longest pieces go in first and always stemlock.

one of the things that I dislike about handtied and bouquet holders that I acheive with old fahioned wire and tape is exquisite balance of the bouquet, The bouquet should be so well balanced that the bride can carry it with just using the forefinger and the middle finge outstretched together and the bouquet resting just on those two fingers. If your bouquet can do that...........then you have created the best bouquet

Thanks, I made them 12 years ago for my wedding..That is me in those pictures..

GORGEOUS BOUQUET - Heavy you said, yet SO comfortable. SUCCESS !!!!!
The clear difference between a true floral professional and an enthusiastic amateur who "does weddings" is clearly evident in the style and presentation of that bouquet and the ease in which it is being carried by the bride. I so love a cascade and hope to see a resurgence of them.

Rick, thank you..I too love cascades and miss them..I hope they do come back en vogue...
