We have an order for an inside casket piece, but the customer does not want it to be on a pillow or in a bouquet holder.

In the past when this happens, we have done the corsage type---and pinned it to the fabric of the casket. However, this customer wants it to be larger than that, and a bit showy. So we hope to use roses and lilies, but that may be too top heavy and be hard to pin.

Does anyone have suggestions?

Make a piece in a bouquet holder and have the funeral director tuck it in the corner...or glue flowers to an L shape piece of cardboard and pin that.
or make a garland for inside the lid...

My suggestions exactly. The corner piece in the bouquet holder really works well because you can also make it drape down some in the front. We also do garlands and just pin in the back. Works out great.

How showy do they know there is going 2b a body in there?

If you have those new plastic bouquet holders you can build it HUGE and then use heat to melt and then break off the handle it will tuck in the corner well at least.

The customer wants it placed at the foot of the casket interior.

Assuming they don't want a traditional foot spray, which also sets inside the casket, what about a sheath of wheat, with fresh?

Our last foot spray was $125.00 set inside the casket. Are you sure that's not what they want?

A flat design tray can hold your arrangement if you don't want the foot spray route, but a larger arrangement. A piece of styrofam with a design bowl works too.

Wish I had a picture of what I did. Anyway, the garland idea is great. It offers some versatility to move around and it is dramatic. A garland draped softly in the lid looks spectacular. I used myrtle, tree fern, and ruscus with spray roses and cushion mums and then small delicate bows along the length.

Very nice Joe!

Since glue is my friend, I could see building a base and gluing everything to it just making sure the heavier pieces have wire to support them.

That is simply beautiful, Joe!

I did this last week.

Wired and taped. The lilies were fine for visitation, but the next day they were wilted (i check up on all my flowers then day of burial in the early am, before everyone gets there)

yes, I wired a loop of wire into the bouquet and stuck a corsage pin on the side of the curved part of the lid and hung the arrangement.

I did stick two extra pins in it, One up high in the lily grass and the other down low. it wasn't really necessary.

FD asked if it would drip on the deceased. I said my competitors would but this one wouldn't. ;)

I use italian ruscus and make the backing with that (wire together) and then glue, glue, glue. Very lightweight and you can pin (or the FD can) through the ruscus stems to secure in place. Most of our visitings are one day and no open caskets in the church for funerals so they hold up perfectly for visitation.

Oh yea the advantage of wiring this thing.....

I bent the daylights out of it when I was sticking it in the casket in order to fit it in the corner.

From the picture, you can see some of the LL is out of place. With wiring all I had to do was move the flowers and greens around until I got it to look right.

Ivysue, You can also use an oasis disc and wire a loop for pinning it inside the lid. Just make sure that you let it drip out before you take it to the funeral home. I usually do my arrangement in whatever size disc I need, use some ruscus for length and my desired flowers. After I am done I hang it in the shop for a while to drip and then slide a corsage bag around the base and tape it. We do 2 day viewings so I like a water source. Hope it helps. Take some corsage pins with you. Good luck.

Ok,

You guys may think I'm nuts, but here goes....

you can create an armature and wire your greens to the armature...

THEN glue water tubes to the armature and greens, very stratigicly placed so you can created an arrangement and still have a water source. remember only to put one bloom in each tube. I would only use tubes for lilies, not so much roses, or heartier flowers.

You could also make the arrangement the way Joe did and glue the tubes in there and then insert your lilies... Don't forget to cover your mechanics!!!

It would work, I know it would.

i was short on time when i made this thing.....

had i thought about it, i should have used some wet cotton on the lily stems, then taped. the other flowers stayed really nice. also, i did not use any hawaian mist or anything similar.

shannon i like your idea, but if on the slim chance a tube would come off....

I don't know if i would want to run the risk of having one of those water tubes come off inside the casket.

Wet dead people = angry funeral director.

also this thing took about 15-20 minutes to make.

A couple of months ago i had the some isue and i made the arrangement in a large iglo, i don't know if you use them, well
i was very nervous about the whole deal it became heavier and more oversized then i expected, so i arrived to the church and i did bring my tool case with any possible clip pin etc etc but to my surprise was this something the funeral director was use to he had a s hook that he hooked some how to the casked and the chenill that i had attached to the iglo clipt on it, it was in place in seconds, so may be you can ask the funeral director,
what would be the easiest for him he might give you an idea and you can keep him happy after all he is the one that has to put it inside at least here in nj they do
