Hello FC friends, I need in a big way help designing long and low for two tables for like a retirement roast. A speakers box will be in the middle of these tables.
Tropical is the look, rather color theme. These pieces will be used the next day at another event along with 8 round designs. This is a real personal issue and I will be promoting for next years school sales.Any suggestions would be great. I'm wanting this to be very wow! Think my head is spinning cause it can be so important. Not alot of money here to work with, come on guys are you up for it? HELP !!!!!!!

Why don't you use a series of glass vases along the edge of the tables. Just tell them you will be needing the vases back. This way you can have fun doing a loose natural look down the row. If it is Tropical colors your looking to do, (not so much tropic flowers?) then start at one end with purples, and work to the opposite end by changing colors and varieties. If you have 8 rounds in the morning, depending on the budget and what you deem, make sure there is enough to place 3 or 4 for each table.

The only reason I am suggesting something like this is that these are being used on rounds. If you think the arrangements need to somehow tie together for the longs, you might want to add a series or colored dried sticks, willow, or loops or colored oasis aluminum wire.

To make certain that I understand what you're needing, the arrangements will be used on long tables, such as a head table, one day and on round tables the next? Also, color is not as important as flower type? You need a tropical look, but not necessarily with tropical (birds, ginger, etc.) flowers?

If you are reusing the low arrangements in addition to 8 others....

I just saw some very nice small tiki torches (10 inches tall?) at Wal Mart. You could incorporate them with your designs for the roast, and remove them/replace them with something else the next day for a different look.

To keep costs down, lots of foilage, with some very brightly colored flowers. Gladioli surprisingly look tropical if you use individual flowers. Maybe a bright colored runner in the color of your flowers.

First of all, Thanks for your time and input. The two long & lows are for a nite before roast. I understand that they will be used the next day for decoration of food tables( I think). Then I have 8 rounds to do in a tropical setting. I have thought on using anthurium (red) and delphinium (purple) splash's of yellow, orange, and hot pinks. Don't laugh now, maybe using pineapple's carved out as containers for round tables. Guys, tring to think outside the box. Yes tropical looking foliage a must to save on the bucks. So how's it sounding so far? I love it when an idea comes together! Got and more pass it on, and thanks so much.Tring to stand out from the other shops old school.

Love the idea of using pineapples as the containers.

Ricky you do?!!!! Your from my part of the south, you know we have little money in the schools to spent on events. I'm going to pick up pineapples and grapes(green)and what ever I can talk down the price on, at the Jocky Lot. haha

We use a more contemporary approach to these types of designs, very clean and usually in rectangular containers and use ti leaves, lily grass and curly willow. We usually get a wow with these because we don't over foliage them which most florists have a tendency to do, the flowers get to stand out. We can also add height to these if we need to.

Trish

Vilchek makes a 20"by 3" by 1.5 inch tray for just this problem. Wholesalers stock it.
When I was working for Harry Miller in Dearborn, Elliott would make 6 foot long low centerpieces in these. When they were wrapped for delivery they looked like submarines.

So much depends on what's available to you. We just got some very inexpensive caladium plants ($3/each cost) in the shop. A couple of those leaves would go a long way and fit very well with a tropical theme.

Connie the event is Tuesday night and a teacher is picking up and taking the two pieces.I finished them tonight before I came home. Had to fix for easy transport.( hope everything goes well)
Wed is lunch for 75 in town hall( remember you and I had a meeting there)
I have used pink, yellow, orange gerbers, added red and purple. I'll photo tomorrow.
Started carving the pinapples today, really think they are going well. Some on their side, some up right. Now I'll set these in place wed. If you don't have anything to do come on down. You are so sweet to lend a hand. Just give a call and talk... always have time to talk. You know I want this account don't ya.

Mr. Fly, now I'm wanting this account when school opens!!! Your a nut your self. In my small town, they'd run my butt out of town and tell my granddaughter what her gran-ma did.haha (she starts 4k there in the fall)
Just what happens when gran-ma is so active with so many city events. Most every body thinks they know your dirt and like to talk about it as you pass.
People don't forget what you do or have done for 50 years, still talk about ya like it was yesterday. Still after the key to the town tho. haha
I'll show this to my husband, he gets a kick out of the jokes on here.
By the way thanks for the joke...... you do make me laugh!

Ellen, I'm off Wed. a.m. and can surely help. I'll call you when I get to the shop. (Hey! I took this morning off too.)

You took two days off ? I only have 8 pineapples to take in. You are welcome to drive on down, if you don't have any thing else to do, would love to see ya.

Two mornings off! Not days off! LOL

I'll have to come down & help you carry those 8 pineapples in because I've already changed my other plans.
