I just met with a bride and she will be back for a sit down consultation on Friday. Problem #1 is her budget (very low). Problem #2 is her color palette for the wedding. She is wearing an off white dress. Her bridesmaids and maid of honor are wearing black dresses with gold accents (gold shoes and shawls). The groom and groomsmen are wearing black tuxes with gold vests. The MOB is wearing pink. The MOG is wearing taupe. Her brother who is walking her down the isle is wearing something, LOL but it's not clear exactly what color it will be. The flowers for the reception have been provided by the hall (bride says white orchids..i'm thinking white dendro)
It seems the color palette is all over the place and i'm confused as to what to do here. I'm really not crazy about any of it. And to add to all this, the bride pretty much doesnt see the importance of flowers for a wedding, her vision is "simple is better"... (by simple she means cheap, right?)
Anybody have any suggestions.
Please keep in mind that their wedding is in 2.5 weeks (sept.01.07)

Sounds like all white kinda girl to me...maybe simple rose bouquets or dendro bouquets..simple can mean cheap but not always. Sometime simple is to the non flower lover just that simple not overwhelming. Find one flower she does like and do that one flower type well.

Yep, let her know that white goes with everything and maybe do all white roses for everything. That way you don't have to order much and it will look great. With a super low budget you don't really get alot of options.

Your color palette is Gold and Black. Forget the moms.

White, Old Gold, maybe just maybe a blush pink it depends on the color Gold, maybe light yellow, even that carnation, hydrangea, spider mum green, Celadon?

Most often, i work with the bridesmaids dresses pick some color for them.

I generally pick a flower from the brides bouquet for the groom, and a flower from the bridesmaids for the groomsmen.

Moms and Dads, white flowers. Now you have pink and taupe colored moms dresses, you could use pink, maybe a light yellow. But to be honest I would stay with white for the moms. Why? because it is easy and it works.

Hope this helps

Ditto Joe - whites, or a combo of whites and deep creams (sahara roses, porcelana sp roses) are an elegant accent to her bridesmaids. Off colored greens, like seed/flat euc, variegated pitt or pitt nigra. Moms are secondary, unless she wants to incorporate those colors somewhere.

Yes, simple = cheap mostly. But more often, I find brides use that word without really meaning it the way we think they do.

good luck!

I agree with Tracy - That color scheme sounds like the best option with so much going on. That would be my recommendation as well

white (or off white and champaigne) as a casual or elegant look. I am guessing more toward the elegant, since she is having orchids at the reception.

Mix whites and creams and I agree with Porcelana spray roses. They even have a hint of blush in the center which may work for the moms as well. If you want to bring in the gold, you could try spraying white dendrobium florets gold. They look really cool and will last forever.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to share their ideas. I'm usually really good with the color wheel but this one threw me off! plus i'm really not a fan of the color gold.
I will wait for the bride to bring in her swatches to see the shade of gold i'm working with and I guess i'll go from there. I will not however be painting any flowers.
Thanks again, and I will post when I make up my mind on this one.

My wedding was off ehite, black and gold.....I never knew how many shades of gold there was until then...The dress that my MOH got was a kind of coppery gold or somewhere between old gold and antique gold. I ended up doing all white flowers with gold and black accents. The gold was so hard to match or blend...Good luck with it I am sure you will sort it all out...

White and white and more white. ;) One of my first weddings in this city was the same pallette... when it was all said and done, it looked wonderfully rich and elegant.

I've just done a wedding not too long ago where the bride had a REALLY limited budget, so roses were out of the question. I made the bridesmaids bouquets out of carnations. All grouped together, the carnations looked really elegant.

Plus, I just did a gift bouquet last week made out of white carns and I weaved through the top some thin strands of curly willow. For the bride's bouquet in 2 weeks, you could do a bouquet of all white carns, weave the curly willow through (sticking out at the top) and glue some white dendros on the curly willow. This way you keep on a low budget only having to use 6 or 7 dendros in a mass of carns. Then you could wrap the stems in off-white underlay with and overlay of gold trim.
Just some ideas!
Good luck with all of that....
