Hi! My name is Candyce and I am from Logan UT... I know, you have never heard of it! Well I love it here, its a small earth friendly little town nestled in the Rocky Mountains.
I have just started my own company, Urban Floral. I do wedding and event flowers. I have worked in a flower shop for several years, but now that I am out on my own, I may be a little lost at times. So I figured this was a great way to learn from the greatest! I cant wait to learn all the tricks of the trade from everyone! Any advice?

I have quit my job at the local floral shop, so I am doing this full time now. I am in the process of a website, but because it is a lot of work I have started a blog in the meantime. It is almost ready to be up.
I am very dissapointed to see that there is some negiivity associated with my business name. I tried to follow the link in the thread you sent me, but it said website unavailable.
I think it is a little too late to change my name, I already have my tax ID and Biz license under Urban Floral.
Could you tell me a little more about what happened with Urban Florist?

Urban Florist is/was a very disreputable order gatherer located in Vancouver British Columbia. They had a great many different websites and utilized FTD and Teleflora to fulfill the orders they gathered. The problem was they were "skimming" money off the top and sending undervalued orders to real florists to fill for them. I for one caught them at their scheme and presented affidavits to FTD regarding the skimming along with their customers receipts showing where they were charged much more for the product than sent along to the filling shop. They were kicked out of FTD and continued to try to send orders they gathered on the internet.
Check out www.floristdetective.com you will find more info on them there.
When you DO get a website up and running, you must make it very clear in your headers and home page that you are a Real Florist, Located in your town and make sure your site produces that "home town real local florist" feeling.
I'm not sure what the trial time is before you can read all the forum, but there is a section in the Wire Services area that is entitled UrbanFlorist along with some other threads dedicated to them and a great many order gatherers.

If "Urban Floral" APPEARS to be HIDING behind a DBA it would just look worse!

I agree... a little bit of a disclaimer on the "About Us" page should take care of it....

Hmmmm. All very good points. I will defiantly do the website stuff, have a disclaimer in the About Us and make in very down home kind of feel. I appreciate the tips.

Urbanfloral, Welcome, I would love for you to PM or call me.
As for the name of your shop, you'll just have to get in the ring and fight for your right
to show who you are. Boss gave you good advice, thats where to start.
