Don't you guys celebrate Good Friday like us by closing your stores?

I know in this town, everything was closed? I know many other canadian flower shop where closed also. However I received a few orders on Thurday for delivery on Friday.

I can't understand how other flower shop can specualte if the shop is open or closed.
I called one of them, a 1-800 order to boot. Here is my conversation.
Hi there this is Luc from Alpine Flowers & gifts.
I received a order from you. I need a price change from $39.99 to $49.99.
Ok let me check.
Ok you have the price increase.
Good, the other problem is that I am closed on Good Friday, Can we send it out Sat? (order arrive here late afternoon).
Let me check, she replied.
SShe comes back, nope you can,t we have to cancel the order.
Ok with me if that is what you want.
That order better not come back my way on Sat or they will have problems filling it.
I am looking forward to May 1st when i am in the drivers seat. No more FTD, which means no more 1-800 orders, retrans orders, ftd.com orders, low order gatherers orders.
I am taking back my rights as a florist.
I don't know about you guys, but I am seeing a increase on outgoing orders since christmas. I am not sure why. I haven't done anything differently.

For me

Luc, most U.S. shops close for church from 12-3, used to be everyone did but these days, not many do, even the banks stay open.

Easter has been religated to a NON-event these days, and folks do not take it seriously as in years past.

As to your comment regarding "cloaked" orders...aren't you Teleflora ?? Be careful, they be the Kings of Cloaking, with those OKC orders...at least FTD sends 'em out with the originating biz info on them....

Good luck my friend....

True enough ... that's why I question all HQ orders, or at busy times ... bounce them.
Used to do the same with most FTD orders coming from a 90-xxxx number. They do the cloak as well :)

Good Friday?

To be fair, you can't say it's just the Americans anymore. We had three orders from Canadian florists on the printer this morning - all of them requesting Friday delivery.

With all of us trying to be more competitive and control our markets, you're seeing fewer and fewer shops close on Good Friday.

Interestingly enough, I don't close. I say interestingly enough because I am a Christian and very involved in my church. But I am not used to a town where everything closes on Friday. Maybe it is a denominational thing?

That's funny, I had many orders going out for Friday delivery and didn't have a single one bounce on me. Maybe down south here it is a non-issue?

Never occurred to me...not the first time tho

Never heard of any shops ever being closed on good Friday here in Upstate N.Y. . Friday is always our biggest day because schools are closed so many parents take the day off , or leave early to get their shopping done for Easter Sunday.
When we bought one of our locations 30 years ago it was even open on Easter Sunday from 10-2 so we have always kept that tradition. I had two part-time people volunteer to work, one is a high school student and the other is Jewish so it was a non issue for her as I gave her 2 days off for Passover in the beginning of the week. We do no deliveries on Easter, they have to buy what is in the cooler or green house, no special orders unless they have ordered ahead of time. We did about $1100.00 in carry out the door sales in the 4 hours. Not to bad but have seen better!!

Had to try out the cool colors and Fonts!!

Hey fellow americansFlorist

We are closed to the public on Good Friday but take advantage of catching some people at home and getting ready for the rush on Saturday. Our whole town shuts down on Good Friday ...... but even though we work we do not demand that someone else does. Plus if it is a nice day outside and we are just plugging along then we may barbeque hotdogs for lunch and enjoy a stress free day. I wish every holiday was as laid back as Easter.
