Hi, my name is Leslie and I'm the owner of Belle Fleur, which is my new floral design business. I'm located in SW Michigan and work out of my home as a floral designer and stay-at-home mommy to my adorable daughter, Audrey.

I'm an avid gardener and known flower lover and over the past two summers I've done numerous weddings for girlfriends. This summer and fall I received several phone calls that were referrals from previous happy brides and thus was born my floral business. I've taken over my husband's home office and dream of someday owning and running my own floral shop.

I'm glad to have this board as a reference and actually stumbled upon it last night when looking for some corsage tips. I have a wedding this weekend and picked up my flower today and cannot wait to dive into these gorgeous fall colored flowers!

Is your home zoned for business?
Do you have a business license, is it required where you are?
Have you been trained in the floral business?

Please tell us more about you....

My home is not zoned for business, because I have no employees, no signage and meet with the bulk of my clients outside of my home. However, my business is an LLC and I am registered with the state, so I do have a federal ID and state sales tax license.

Throughout high school and college I worked for a local florist, so that was my only official training in the floral biz. After college, I worked for many years in the world of marketing, but I left to raise our daughter. I'm a creative person and flowers kept coming back into my life, so this felt like a good fit. I can work as much or as little as I would like and still spend time with our daughter.

Yes, I recently purchased a cooler. It was a must for keeping my flowers fresh!

All of my advertising has been by word of mouth so far. Like I stated above, I've gotten referrals from previous happy brides, although I have started to expand on things a bit. A friend of mine does wedding photography and she has passed my name along to several brides and an acquaintance has an event planning company and we are starting to work together. They have been wonderful resources too!
