Last week I attended a wonderful design show at Sieck Wright Wholesale in Hightstown, NJ. The show was organized by members of the Teleflora Penn Jersey Unit and featured lots of creative ideas for weddings and events.

I thought I would share some of the many photos we took of her fabulous designs. This style of work has always intimated me somewhat, feeling "out of my league", but Hitomi's style of presenting definitely de-mystified the processes behind such incredible work. We went home inspired to think mechanically a little differently. If you have the opportunity to see her, I would recommend it - she's lovely to listen to, and her work is very inspiring!

1) artificial hydrangea florets and fresh dendros draping from decorative wire.
2) altar or entryway piece - next pic shows the mechanics
3) mechanics - notice how the flowers are very short, all flowers face forward for best visual value - genius! This was one of my faves.
4) hydrangea florets and buds wired for graceful draping - another favorite.
5) I forget which type of protea this foliage is from, but it made a stunning handle treatment.
6) Peony tulips - yum
7) Another creative handle treatment
8) Cut ti leaf - more genius. Love the color, but the width is hard to use. The cuts make it more ribbon like, easier to use.
9) Closeup of the handle mechanics
10) Flower Purse - cute!
11) Flowerbirl Basket - more cute!
12) Armband - great shot of mechanics to make the band.
13) Dreaded carnations - topped with orchids. She used carnations in almost everything, especially for texture as a "background", like you might use greenery. Great for covering mechanics.
14) A twist on the single flower budvase, using the curly branches to support the gerbera, instead of a straw.

Thanks Tracy!
I LOVE Hitomi! It was so sweet of you to put up those pics. I'm taking her class in OKC this year and I cannot wait! And then I'm taking the whole staff to Albuquerque to see her in August. It's hard for us because the closest major city is Albuquerque and it's a 4 hour drive away. Denver is over 7!! So I draw inspiration from all I can. I think it's so sad the people who live in the big cities and never go to shows. When I lived in Okc and also in Albuquerque I went to as many as I could!

Thanks for sharing the fabulous photos!!
That was very kind of you.

Thanks Tracy. Interesting concept about the carnations as background. I like that because it is true, carnations do have an interesting texture. I think there might be a place for them in my life...

Thanks Tracy for sharing the pics, she did some wonderful detailing on things, I especially loved the bouquet handles. Do you know what the bright green wire curls were made of that were on the little basket?

Thanks again for the pics.

Trish

Tracy,

You are such a sweetheart for sharing those photos with us. Thanx:thumbsup

I especially loved the bouquet handles. Do you know what the bright green wire curls were made of that were on the little basket?
They are paper covered wire - I didn't take the time to look for it in the supply area of Sieck, but I'm sure it's there. That paper covered wire was in alot of her design - the bright color for decor, and more subdued color for mechanics.

One of our designers was also at this show. She was most inspired by everything Hitomi made.

Today, she tried the leaf cutting technique presented where you weave the individual pieces back into the foam. Really nice effect.
