:hammer: The weather outside is frightful,
And I am feeling spiteful,
No buses, or cabs or plows,
All this snow really blows, really blows...

Sucks too, because my Echo is a mere lump under a sea of white.

Holy cow we were slammed over the past 24 hours... 2-3 feet of snow throughout London.

Wish I could Connie, but I've called my staff and told them to stay home, so I'm looking for a way to get in. I have orders for this morning (by noon), pick-ups for this afternoon (21 large baskets)... so I'm waiting for my boss to call me. He has a vehicle that apparently can drive through anything. Hopefully he'll pick me up. :)

However, the challenge is getting from my porch to the road. I'm 5'1" (and a wee bit), the snow is thigh high (I love my landlord, but he believes if God put it there, He should take it away!). Should be veerrry interesting! ;)

Hmmmm... except that if I can't get out to work, neither can the shoppers. It's playing havoc with the malls and stores at the moment.

The police are begging people to stay home. The public buses are not running, no cabs, no trains, planes or automobiles. ;) The streets are littered with abandonned vehicles. My drive home last night was a nightmare and when I finally arrived here I almost fell to my knees in gratitude... but I was concerned no one would find me until the next thaw. ;)

Oddly enough Mark these streamers only cut a 75km swath. As a result about 20 minutes (on a good day) from here, they got nothing!

I've pretty much resigned myself to staying home with the broom and mop and pail. A good opportunity to herd dust bunnies into submission. ;) And maybe even Christmasise my place (I've done everywhere else!).

Mike... :) I refuse to drown in snow!

Hey V:

How large is London? I know a guy on another forum who just posted pics of the snow you and your fellow residents of London received.

You really got dumped on!

Joe

Some of our busiest days fall on days with a heavy snowfall. Maybe because no one can get out - we do!! I have had hubby come in and deliver in that big brawny 4WD Dodge pick up many times but my front wheel drive Dodge/Chrysler vans will usually go anywhere! Maybe it's because we are so used to it, especially since the winter of 1962/3 (ah yes, I remember it cause my baby sister was born) when the snowstorm dumped over 4 feet in a 36 hour period. My mom came home from work in a tractor (front end loader) that was keeping the roads open. We could climb onto the roof of our house and slide down off it to the front yard.........ah those were the days !!!

Victoria,

How typical is 2-3 feet of snow in London? I thought it only rained there!

No, we get snow every winter, but not usually this much at one time. The last huge dumping was in 1977. As long as the lakes are open we are more likely to get the lake effect streamers. That's what happened this time. Lake Huron is still wide open, so the streamers blow off there, skip my old stomping grounds and find me here. ;)

This reminds me of winters when I was a kid. I'm from Northern Ontario and I remember huge snow. Guess I'm not far enough south yet.;)

Wow! The things one can learn here! I once said that I even read the posts that I don't understand, and I surely do not fully understand feet of snow because we usually get inches. Fascinating life you folks up there live!

That image of Victoria's head bobbing just above the snow will bring smiles all day.

Ah yes, I remember that one very well. My Hubby was At MIchigan State U and the campus was CLOSED. More :beer was sold that week than any other.....:beer

I remember going to bed that night and waking up to find my car in the driveway GONE! it was under the snow. Took over a week for the county plows to open our road -then they used a Michigan Loader some spots had drifts over 12'tall.

The snow was so darn deep you couldn't even get the snowmobiles out to play - they would sink! And the banks along the roads were so tall, you couldn't see around the corner for coming traffic.....

Ah, haven't seen a storm like that in years........and of course when we reminisce about it my kids think we're nuts. [and we walked barefoot uphill to & from school in the winter]...... :)

Holy cow, you have a park named for you...now that's impressive!!!!
What a pretty city.....we should all take pictures of our towns and share them...
Sher

Honey... there are many many things named after Old Dead Queen in this country. ;) Although there is a lake named after me, for real, in the town I used to live... Victoria Lake at the Esli Dodge Conservation Area. I'm rather proud of that.

Never saw London....

in the winter. Every couple of Summers we used to take the train up to visit an aunt and uncle who lived on Whetter Ave. My treat was to spend the day at Springbank Park.

I like to walk the dog in Springbank in the winter... there are no bikes, roller blades etc. Sometimes I'll let Carsen off the lease and he'll happily chase geese into the wild blue yonder. :)

Wow V! I had not seen this post, you have brought our lovely city to the limelight! It should also mention that we have more donut shops per capita than any other Canadian City, how sad is that. Not to mention we also have 3x the flower shops that a city this size needs. My street is now plowed and life is returning to normal! Blue skies today for the first time in weeks. Going to see Stuart McLean today. Now for the canadian folks here, you would have to listen to CBC radio to know who I am talking about. For the US and International folks...to hard to explain. Have a good day everyone.

It's beginning to look alot like...

SPRING!

Basically no snow left. Two to three feet gone. :) It's going to be a balmy 10C here today and 11 by Sunday. Quite a difference a week makes...
