The largest hospital in our town prohibits Oriental lilies specifically and wants florists to refrain from using other strongly scented flowers.

lilys are already banned , poinsettias , banned , only a matter of time before all flowers will be banned , but yet some old woman can choke 10 people in an elevator with the toilet water poured over herself anf no one says a word??? Just something else for the rest of the world to @@@@@ about.

Wonder why poinsettias are banned? Maybe it's because of the old wives tale that poinsettias are poisonous.

latex alergies, the sap inside is supposed to have latex in it.

We stopped sending oriental lilies to the hospital years ago due to the smell. Especially stargazer..although I have found Sorbonne to be not as heavy or sickeningly sweet. Due to the sizes of hospital rooms, get one design (even one lily) and it wafts throughout the room and into the corridors even.
As someone who has violent sinus reactions to certain perfumes, I can appreciate the efforts. Stargazers really stuff me up although Starfighters do not...go figure :(

We advise against heavy fragranced flowers for hospitals, especially if the patient has a roommate. And, we always advise against these flowers for cancer patients who are in treatment. They already get sick enough from the chemo.

Scent free ...

here as well but more for comfort in small rooms. The hospital does not stop us if someone for any reason wants to have lots of fragrance. I'm just careful.

Poinsettias are banned because of the latex in the sap.

Just had a wedding this weekend with tons of all colours of oriental lilies and let me tell you the garage (where I put them to open up) was very, very fragrant and when the bride came in this morning she knew before she saw them that she had lots of lilies.
