I feel stale in the foliages I've been using in bouts.

Has anyone used Hosta foliage?

and what is your fav foliage to use? (looking for something new)

TIA

Hostas can be used to line vases, or folded over around the edge of the design. Larger leaves can be used in big arrgs or there are smaller leaves too. They last pretty well and come in different color varieties. The ones in my yard give me a nice profit margin too!

Hosta plants and leaves come in MANY different sizes, shapes and even colors! I have a hosta plant which has leaves the perfect size for bouts and corsages.

HOWEVER...hosta does not do well if it is not connected to a water source. As a cut foliage, it will last only 5 hours...give or take an hour or so...and MUST be well hydrated and coated in Crowning Glory. If the hosta is going to be used as a cut foliage (not in a water source like wet foam or vase) for an outside event in the sun and heat....well, I just wouldn't chance it. Hosta is the foliage equivelant of gardenia or hydrangea...very particular indeed!

I've used hosta in bridal work, but did not do well if it didn't get water like daisy said. I have used silal leaves, lily grass, stipped down espidistra, ruskus and ivy. I never use myrtle or pitt unless you paint the pitt, seems to hold up that way, otherwise have seen wilting. My favorite of late is silal, the new JH prom book has some cool stuff you can do with it, also love lily grass since you can wrap the stems, make loops and all kinds of cool stuff. Green hypericum berry and seeded euc are variations that can add texture.

My favorite Frontyardia is nandina. It holds up beautifully and gives a nice look. Hosta? There are gorgeous varieties, but I've only used it in wet foam or in vases.

the first time i used hosta is when i paid for the leaves in a holland box (10 stems). that was the last time i ever paid for it, but i use it all the time. i grow all kinds of hosta at my house and have an endless supply of it. my favorite is the partially variegated (for lack of a better term) lime green color. it's absolutely beautiful (especially against hot color roses) and i think because i cut it in the morning before i go to work and use it as i go, it stays incredibly fresh in either vases or foam.

the first time i used hosta leaves is when i paid for ten stems in a mixed holland box. that was the last time i paid for hosta. i grow all kinds of hosta around my house and cut as needed from spring till fall. the most beautiful one is the lime green partially variegated. it looks beautiful against hot color roses like pink and orange. i think it stays nice either in a vase or in foam because it is so fresh cut.

i sprinkle a solution of soap and water over the leaves to keep the critters and bugs from eating my supply and that works well. the soap leaves a film on the leaves that tastes bad for the animals, but doesn't hurt either the leaves or the critters. i do have to reapply after a rainstorm.
