I have a bride asking me about availabililty for August for a single large hot pink/fuschia orchid bloom. My experience is that most lean toward more lavander/purple shades, though some have a lot of red undertones, I've never seen a hot pink. Just wondering if anyone else knows of a hot pink or fuschia orchid?

She would settle for a spray type like dendro, or mokara, or vanda, but prefers a single larger bloom ( for her hair and her groom ).

thanks !

See, now I think that phale looks pink too, but my local orchid grower says they are really more of a "fluorescent purple". And wholesalers all say lavendar/purple too. But that's very similar to the pic that the bride brought in - it definitely was a phale. Any clue as to the "named variety" of that color in the pic?

Love the king of taiwan, maybe ... anything else?

Thanks ladies!

I have never seen a phal that is that pink, but a pink vanda has that intense color you seem to be looking for. Size would be appropriate for her hair and to use as a boutonniere. They are available from a wholeslaer in your area. Contact me if you would like more information.

Okay Tracy,
Here you go :)

Hot Pink Dendrobiums-
Misteen and Pink Sonia (true hot pink...see here)

Phales...
If you scroll down the page to the small flowers section the hot pink one is there. However, of course, not variety name is listed.

Here is another: no variety name but it lists it as "hot pink"

Okay so after an hour this is all I have...sorry :(

If I find anything else I will let you know!
:) Heather

Thank you Heather ... but mistene is a pale pink. I only know because it's a frequent wedding orchid for us. I think the names are on the bottom of the photo, not the top.
So the pink ones they show are Waiphahoo and Int Comb. Great refrence site, though, and I'll ask my suppliers about them. I like the one all the way at the bottom, called Diana, white with a big pouty pink lip.

Thank you again!

edit: So, has anyone spray colored a phale? We do orchids occasionally, but pastel colors, like the fresh green, seem to color well. Such a deep color sprayed can look tacky so easily .... anyone had success with that?

I thought you were looking for a "single" orchid... that's why I researched the catts. :)

Geez if only I knew about the need for the orchid sooner... Alana took some pics of orchids she found along her trek... she could have dragged it along with everything else she had. ;)

V- yes, she prefers a single orchid, but because they don't seem too likely to find, I'm trying to present her with better options. Thanks, again!

ps - imagine the trouble with Alana trying to "export" an orchid ... all the trouble with the few cents she smuggled out of the whole bank/exchange dealy-o would look like a birthday party in comparison!

You can spray ....

cymbidium orchid blooms with the new Just For Flower spray tints .... JTV shows you how. We have had to lightly tint cymbids when the colour does not arrive and this new spray is safe for delicate flowers. As long as you don't try to make something too dark the tints are soft enough to look more natural. Check out the JTV to see what he does with them.

Pam, thank you - I saw that too. My concern is that the color is so deep, that I don't think it would come out as nice.

I guess I could try and make a deep color deeper .... hadn't thought of that till just now. For instance, I got in Mokara Nora Pink - pretty orchid, but it's really more lilac colored - like a red/violet color, more than actual pink. So now I'll try and spray that with a deeper color & see if I can make it pinker. I'll post how it comes out.

Thanks for the suggestion!
