Yesterday, I was doing something really safe in my woodworking hobby.

I was unclamping an 1.5 inch x 24" x 10ft long Oak boards from a bunch of clamps.

I was almost done and needed to pulll one out from underneath. In doing so, I had to tilt this really really heavy composite board on edge. I just gripped it in my right hand, however it slipped and the extremely well jointed edge of this really heavy board dropped on my foot.

I was wearing top siders and socks, but GD!!!!!!!!! it hurt. Nicholas, aka #2 kid, was outside when this happened. He can verify the pain and agony AND nothing profane eminating from my vocal chords.

As i sit here typing my right foot, the end of the first toe from the big toe looks like a big cherry.

It hurts.

so Drs...??? do you think it is broke and if it is there anything I can do for it?

I say no, a broken toe just has to go.... YA KNOW! ;)

Yeap..Dr. Mom (also known as nurse "don't pick that") says its broke for sure. If I remember medical school (also known as raising 2 boys) nothing to be done for a broken toes. Some drs will tape it to its neighbor toe for you. They may also prescribe some totally fab pain med..might be worth calling

I got some pain meds Joe.....

How to know if your toe is broken

Base on your description, and after reading that page, sound like you've definitely broken it.

Please pay special attention to
<LI class=lstWarning>Never try to "walk off" a broken toe. A piece of broken bone might rub against vital body tissues and cause permanent damage to ligaments or nerves.
Here's a page of recommended treatments. Doesn't sound like a doctor is really needed - just some TLC and the commitment to stay off the foot. Easier said than done, no doubt.

In the mean time, the guys' suggestions for some anesthesia sounds like a plan.

"Buddy Tape" your toe . That's really all you can do. I have a friend who is a pediatrist and that's what he says. I would put ice on it too if you have a "Fred Flintstone" kind of injury. (swollen, throbbing)

A bag of frozen vegetables works great for that.

Hope you feel better

Been there, done that...except it was the corner of a large TV that crushed my little toe into 7 pieces. Went to Dr. and he did exactly as they have said. Wrap it, but first put a piece of cotton between it and the next toe and wear slippers or something very comfortable for awhile, cause it's going to be awhile before the pain eases. Think in terms of weeks. Sorry, but maybe bloomz has the help you need.

sorry

I'm sorry it hurts and they are right, buddy tape it! I have broken toes on a few occasions. As a mater of fact i read that the normal person will break toes more than 15 times in the life and most don't even realize that it is broken.

And I almost feel bad for doing this......:rofl::rofl:

No additional remedies for you, Joe, but I send lots of wishes for a speedy and painless recovery!

Oh I have a funny story 'bout this. When I was younger I smashed my toe on the coffee table and man it hurt like a... My mother who was a NURSE bandaged it up and basically told me to get over it. I still had to limp to school and was only exempt from gym for a week I think. Then my Mom was in Africa or something and my brother smashes his toe at the same spot as I did. Now was my turn to tell him to get over it but my auntie brought him to the doctors and he got crutches and got to stay home for a week!!!! I couldnt believe it.
Basically Joe if your toe turns blue and you cant get your shoe on without man tears ...its broke! and youre also lucky my Mom isn't around 'cause we all know what she would say.

Yeowch. Don't do much :walking:for a while, if you can.

feel better!

Hey Joe, How's the toe???

Toes are hard, there's not much you can do for them..

And not really a good time for you to be laid up...but then again is there a good time for any of us to be laid up??

Rest it Joe and watch it....anything funny and go to the hospital...

Let's make sure no more of you Mioux's break anything else this year...be careful..

Yep, I'd say it's broken and believe me, I know broken toes. I've broken toes so often it's not funny. My advice, get it looked at. Be prepared for them to want to put you on crutches.

The first time I broke my big toe on my right foot, my mom was furious to be in emerg on the hottest day of the summer because I was crying about how d@mn much it hurt -we were there for hours. I don't know who was more shocked, her or me, when the door wanted to cast my foot. I refused the cast, it was back before fibreglass casts and you can't swim with a cast (we live beside a lake). I took home crutches instead. Toes hurt a lot. Now, don't go breaking the tarsils in your feet, that one *hurts*.
