Some of you DIY'ers need to heed this advice:

Creating a terrible website seems to be a common goal on the internet. I’ve seen it accomplished many times, so I thought I’d make it easier for everyone and post the ultimate guide.

From the time a visitor enters your site to the time they exit, there are plenty of effective techniques to annoy them. So in this article, I will identify 28 points to remember during a website development and how to execute them properly. Feel free to bookmark this and use it as a reference when you’re in the mood to frustrate visitors.

I'm becoming more and more convinced your average florist should make their own website about as often as your average crafter should do the flowers for an inauguration ball.

There's some great advice there...dang I gotta get bizzy.

I just want to add a gripe about websites. I find it annoying to go to a businesses website and have to navigate through tons of family, staff, and personal stories to get to the meat of the business. Then there is pages of long paragraphs about the company history, etc. I don't mean to sound cold but I don't care. And I am sure that although I think I am super special and so are my family and friends, I have to believe that strangers around the world could care less. I want them to go to my website and buy something, not become my friend because they find out I like to read non-fiction crime stories. Am I crazy or does anyone else feel this way? How about the opinions of the professional web designers here?

Just messing here, but read the last paragraph of your post and then read your signature line below about trying something new.....just tickled me a bit.

:)

Shoot I wuz gonna post a link to a good example of the above, done by our used to be very own 12Dux

http://www.usflowerhaus.com/

But I see it is broken and not working!

Oh well - anyone remember that hideous thing? I believe it was built on blogging software.

For the newbies - this was the guy who was our great teacher here, showing us all the way and all the things we were doing wrong.

Yeah - he went out of business. Some of our great arguments live in infamy in the archives tho...:icon15

Love it! So true.
This made me laugh out loud:

"Use bevels and drop shadows on your logos and graphics. Make a nice display of pointless Photoshop text effects. (Bonus tip: use them on Comic Sans) "

Very true, and you never know how you'll do until you try. But I'm amazed that for a group of people who make their livings selling beauty, there are some seriously bad websites representing their businesses. It's important to try, but sometimes you need to know when to call professional help.

I think 12Dux had them all beat.

He should get an award.

I remember that awful site.. hot pink background, bad logo, embedded wedding video (gag), stolen images. How sad that it's down. <snicker>

My husband just showed me this one as an example, be warned, your eyes will pop out.

wow. you have to see it to believe it.

(he cautions *possible seizure*)

Aahhh! My eyes! The goggles, they do nothing!

Good grief!

And who could forget 12bux and all of his attacks on all of us, especially Bloomzie! The last straw was when he told Cathy (CHR) that she should be flattered (or was his word, honored) that he stole HER images to place on HIS website.
