Had a wire in for a gift certificate on Mothers Day , phone the sending shop to explain that the gift certificate would have to be for cut flowers only , nursery stock would not apply. This was supposed to have been explained to their customer and we were to notified before the delivery if this was not what they wanted. We received no phone call and clearly wrote on the certificate only for "cut flowers" Recepient has tried to use for nursery stock
and is very unhappy that it can't be used . Apparently the sending shop didn't bother to notify their customer and is now looking for a cancellation , I have refused as they were advised before hand and as far as we knew everything was fine or we wouldn't have delivered it. Would you dig in your heels as well or swallow the payment made to a delivery person ?

I would not can cel the order.
I don't understand why not the nursery.
Is the profit margins not as high? I sold many outdoor plants at mothers day with proper mark up.
To make everyone happy, I would say pick something from the nursery and put a memory tag in your head for next year.
Then refuse the order unless they play with the rules.
THis may make your customer happy.

To us, one item is much the same as another. I wouldn't have limited the gift certificate.

We sell trees and shrubs , soils , etc . The markup is a lot less ,ie if soil cost $2.00 per bag we sell for $2.99 , markup on chemicals etc is even less .

Seems to me you made it clear to the sending shop and the recipient by putting the limitations on the certificate. Having worked in an operation similar to yours I understand the difference in mark up between nursery stock and flowers...your shop, your policy...is there some way to molify the customer without costing you too much?

If the certificate is clearly marked ... the customer shouldn't have tried in the first place. It's your choice what to offer with a certificate of that nature.

No option to cancel ... perhaps give the recipient your 800# to have the customer call direct for full details next time?

The person sending knew toll free but used an OG because of bonus points on their credit card. I'm willing to cancel order but driver was paid a fee and that will have to be paid. Could have been avoided if the sending outfit had done as requested and 2 people (sender & recepient ) would not be unhappy with us.
Ps: this OG has been told where to put all further orders even the ones coming from their legimate flower shop.

I still don't understand.
If I go to your store and buy a $100 gift certificate and give it to someone, why couldn't that someone redeem it at your store for whatever you sell? Why does it have to be flowers?

George in this case it would have to be fresh flowers because it's a wire in order and Sunny is going to loose at least 30% commission and service charges!!! Flowers are marked up accordingly but garden center stuff has a very low markup so Sunny would be giving away the store!!

Yet if a customer comes in and buys a gift certificate for 100% Sunny can make money no matter what the recipient picks out.

No, I'll pass on incoming Gift Certs

No way will I let a Wire Service Incoming order requesting a Instore Gift Cert.

Yes I will do this for the Florist if they pay by CREDIT CARD ONLY and DIRECT, NO TAX:D 100.00 US dollars Total entered into our machine plus the Delivery of course.

Solves that problem with having to choose whether or not your offering just Flowers or Nursery or just non flower gift items.

I'll take anyones Gift Cert request as long as you use a Credit Card with NO TAX and I will deliver that Cert within our delivery zone for a mear $9.95 TOO! added to your $100 dollar Gift Certificate.

Now that is SERVICE! and the instore customer pays NO TAX TOO!. You collect it at your end and send me the NET.

I get it now, someone is sending someone else a gift certificate through a wire service. So an $100 is really only $70 or so.
OK, it makes sense now.
