Sher...
I called to check on you and Shannon this morning. The phone just rang and rang. I guess you've already secured everything and have moved to safer ground.
If you want to drive as far north as Chicago, you can stay with me....
I hope everything will be okay for you after Frances moves through. We've been watching the news and we'll keep saying our prayers for all of you down there.
Keep us informed if you can.

Another tragic blow to Floridians....
Yes another family member in distress and we can only hope they will be safe and the tragedy will me minimize.
TIme to come and visit Luc and mMikey sher....
Luc

Sher is doing just fine I hope...

she and hubby are survivors, and as the hurricane approaches the eastern coast of Florida, it SHOULD miss the southern Miami to West Palm beach area, and Sher will be safe. the problem right now, is people trying to flee the path of the storm, and gas stations are running out of fuel, and nervous motorists are running out of fuel even along the interstates.......
Gonna be windy and flooding though....
be safe Sher...

Hey Guys

So far the lights have gone out once, the kids had a huge tree fall on their car just as they were headed here but they did arrive safely. We have the whole family, 4 generations, three dogs and a few of the kids friends who had nowhere to go, so about 15 folks at the house.I have a bottle of tranquilizers! We live on an acre and have 5 huge oak trees....I am glad that I cannot see outside.........did I mention that we have the ex husbands boat in the yard also. This is a zoo! I think we will be ok but the winds are really dangerous and the advisory keeps changing. Latest is that it will hit north of here but who knows.........seems to be a little wishy washy on where it wants to go. It is so slow actually the slowest moving 'cane in 40 years, that it may take two days to go across us....awful.
Dade and Broward have been warned that the feeder bands will be very destructive.
The price we pay to live in paradise!
Will keep you posted as long as we can...thanks for your kind thoughts.
Sher and the zoo!

Hello Sher

I too have been thinking about you. You know I'm not far away if you want to pack up and visit beaufort. Be safe. Sylvia

Sher's OK....

just talked to her, and the whole family is safe at her house, and they cannot do, more than they;ve done......
We're prayin with you hunny.....
Mike and Sandie

from The Associated Press: at 6:00AM EST

"Developments associated with Hurricane Frances:

About 40,000 Florida Power & Light customers were without power early Saturday, primarily in Broward, Miami-Dade, Palm Beach and Martin counties."

That puts Sher and other board members right in the middle...

updates on the 'cane 9:30am

lights on and off. wind terible. slowest hurricane in history. all of us starting to get cabin fever with the shuttersd on. Thank god we have food or we might eat the dogs!! Just kidding! It is suppose to land about 40-75 miles away from us as of this morning but it has changed four times since midnight.Slowest cane in history and deadly winds. Smartest thing is to stay inside, which is what we are doing. Got a camp stove and a small covered patio if we need to cook a warm meal after it is over. They are really concerend about folooding. Pray for the folks on the west coast. They are going to be iin the zone when it moves across the state. This storm is so massive that it is about 400 miles wide . Not sure what info you guys are getting but it literally could cover the state.
take care all of you and thanks for the phone call Mikey and Mlou.and the prayers from all of you guys. Isn't great to have global friends.we are truly blessed. Sher

Many Floridians...

could be without power for 2 weeks, and the extensive infrastructure damage, is already playing havoc with drinking water supplies.
The low lying areas are almost completely flooded, and the ground absorbtion rate is ZERO, meaning the soils are completely saturated, and the water will either sit there, or make a mad dash to the drainage canals, or open water, and heaven help anything in it's way.....
Material, and fuel, are the next concern.....most cold stored foods have been consumed, and/or spoiled, and resident's are getting critically low on accesible food supplies.
Our friends in Florida have been bombed, raped, pilliaged, and insulted by a huge storm...and does it look like the world is gonna come to their rescue??
Our friends in the US are usually THE FIRST to offer THEIR help anywhere that disaster strikes...you think the world will reciprocate??
Mike

Oh no another one?

This morning they are talking about Ivan another cane making it's way towards Florida with projected land fall sometime at the end of this week.

Pray that this one makes a turn out to the Atlantic sea and spares Florida.

and doesn't live up to it's historical reference... :(

Ivan, already has one record of it's own...

Ivan is the southern most hurricane to ever form in the Atlantic.

SHER, AND HER FAMILY ARE ok.....

she's busily loading up on supplies and heading over to West Palm area to help out other family members.
There are currently 10 million people without power, it is rapidly becoming hot and very muggy, and there is going to be day to day chaos for a long time to come.
I was lucky enough to get through on a totally overwhelmed communications network, and Thank GOD...Sher is OK.....her home and business are still standing.
Her comments about the looting going on cannot be printed here.
Ivan is approching, and Floridians are terrified....
Mike

no reply as of yet......

Hollywood was a little spared from this cane, but, Stuart, Fort Pierce, and Hutchison Island were the hardest hit, and I am still trying to reach some friends that had waterside homes just outside the golf course in Stuart, and a report from another contact, is that those sand dune islands are gone.
I also heard that the long pier at Pompano has been destroyed, but, still unverified.
Deerfield beach, and the A1A Highway business district is underwater, and north to the Indiatlantic shores, there are reports of mosquito swarms, eating people literally.
In the poor district of Palm Beach, there are reports of residents "floating" around in their mobile homes ( which I agree) which should be BANNED as permanent residences in Florida.
The whole state, is in involuntary fuel shortages, it was short of fuel even BEFORE this storm, and many fuel storage facilities, had not yet brought in the next shipments af gasoline and diesel fuels....
Building material suppliers were "ripping" people for plywoods, and last reports had 5/8 ply going for $40.00 bucks a sheet.
As a group of concerned people, WE SHOULD BE supporting the RED CROSS as our main aid objective, as THEY are one of the FEW agencies that TRULY CARE about people's well being....
Mike

Here in Hollywood damage was minor compared to up north-lots of uprooted trees and power down for manyell and the power came back on yesterday-we are spending the day today resetting the store getting new flowers etc. Tomorrow 5 AM my son and I will head north to My folks place in Hobe Sound to se what can be done. They had 2 mobile homes there so we have our fingers crossed (they are in NJ for the summer). Store should reopen Wed am. Now we are looking ativan this could be a very long hurricane season!

Got a new leak in the roof!

the aftermath

"Building material suppliers were "ripping" people for plywoods, and last reports had 5/8 ply going for $40.00 bucks a sheet."

Funny, today I went to buy a second generator and there were folks there returning wet plywood.....thought that was the funniest thing I had seen in a long time.
Thanks to all of you for your kind thoughts, phone calls & emails voicing your support and concerns. Our shop is finally up and sputtering, having to back the vans in close together with the gas thingiess close enough together so that noone can siphin. Isn't it strange the things we have to do to protect ourselves in a time of crisis.
We did not reset the showroom as we are expecting a blow from Ivan within 7 days.
One thing that I did find special was the fax I got from Hortica telling me what I could get covered for and to please let them know what I needed from them. @@@@ near fell off my chair. They have always been there for us but to reach out at a time like this made me feel real good.
We had outages, water leaks and some computer surges, so we are keeping tabs on what we lost etc...........and just when business was getting better along comes this. Well, at least we are safe, have a wonderful family of lforist friends and warm food. Better than those up a bit from us.
And yes Mikey.........the pier took a bad whippin.
Take care all of you,
Sher

I was gonna ask you Sher....

if one of my favourite little haunts is still there, on the ocean side of A1A in what still seems to be a residential area of Lighthouse Point.
I think it was called Captain Jack's, or Captain John's, or something like that, on an old barge that was dragged up on shore, and the guy turned it into a bar/restaurant.
We'd drive to this little parking area, and a "boat ferry" would take us across the inland waterway, to the restaurant, and it turns out, the ferry "captain's" family, runs a large charter on the St.Lawrence River, not far from Brockville,Ontario, CANADA most of the year, then heads down to Florida during the winter months, and does the "ferry thing" for this restaurant.
Mike

Just can't imagine what the Floridian's did to mother-nature to incure such a devilish 'cane season?
I'm so glad to hear Sher and the others are doing well.
I am wondering what happened to the x's boat????? Sher, did you watch it roll out to sea?
With Ivan closing in fast, we'll keep the prayers rolling. We all sure hope things get better REAL SOON!
