What ever happened to people being accountable for their own actions? Why is it that we business owners have to carry the burden of others laziness/stupidity?

Nice family funeral this week. Nice = lucrative. Family seemed intelligent enough.

Along with casket mound and several standing sprays they asked for a small 'hinge piece' to sit by the head where the casket is hinged. Piece was made in a bouquet holder as design book recommends. Instructions were attached with piece on how it was to be placed.

Daughter of the mother who died called Wednesday, thanked my designer who made all the pieces. (I try my best to make sure designers are personally thanked rather than being thanked through me - anyway...).
After she thanked her, she said 'I need you to know of a mistake that was made, The funeral home placed the hinge piece in my mother's hands'.

My designer as sweet as pie said 'Did you ask the funeral director to move it?'

'No'

'Did you move it'?

'No, I just thought you should know'

My designer hung up the phone, told me the story and we just scratched our heads.

Many more tales like this within our industry. Just makes you nuts after the holiday when you're tired and truly feel like you've done all you can for everyone. jenny

Other than that were they happy?
If 'yes' blow it off.

Funeral directors are not florists.

I imagine if I saw a piece made in a bouquet holder, I too would ASSUME that it was to go in the hands.

If I had made such a piece, I think I would have called ahead and spoke to whoever was handling that particular service and explained over the phone, or better yet, in person how to attach the piece.

I get that you sent instructions, but obviously they didn't read them, they probably thought they didn't need to.

At many funerals, I have personally slipped flowers in hands, or attached lid pieces, I know some FH don't allow that though.

Anyway, Blow it off and chock it up to a lesson learned.

hey
the last time we did one of those lid piece in a bouquet holder we found out there was no way it would stay in the corner of the lid.
There was not enough room to get the handle between the lid and the casket nor could you get the handle to stay between the padding/lining? and the casket itself. It was a real nightmare. The fD and I both messed with the darn thing for several minutes. We tried everything. I recall very stiff fabric or even cardboard behind the lining - but not on this casket - it was just a thin polyester type fabric not substance at all. We finally had to lay it sort of in the corner.

I won't sell those babies any more.

Shannon, I did blow it off.

The point of my post, which I obviously didn't state clearly enough:

No one wants to be accountable for their own actions. They always want to blame someone else, for something that could be easily rectified. If they'd just do it themselves.

Done, gone, forget I ever mentioned it. :) jenny

Kristine and Jenny, and anyone else for that matter.....

An easy and simple solution is make those in "igloos" rather than bouquet holders.

HOWEVER... If you do make it in a holder, cut the handle off.

then how do you attach it into the lid?

The issue (posted above) we even tried to use pins and a ribbon thru the holder to attach to the lining and the lid lining. No go, nothing was sturdy enough. We kept pulling the linings off the casket. Perhaps this was an extremely inexpensive casket (although it didn't look cheap)

I hate to say this, but that is the new old trend coming back, SO you can sell that now as well, the igloo, pin the darn thing in the lid,

Never ever had that problem...

I've always pinned it to the bottom left corner.

I agree, there is no accountability.....but also, more important always remember...Ya can't fix stupid" Anyone with half a brain would have opened their mouth and asked the FD to place the bouquet where it belonged!

I have found that those things just don't stay. I have learned to make a wire form and glue all the flowers on that form. Then I use 2 pins to pin it. It does not weigh as much. Just make sure that you spray the h*** out of it with crowning glory.
