TFTD800 have one thing in common. They all state that they have the best interests of the independent florists at heart.

In another thread, I asked how much Courier services charge to deliver flowers. The reason I did this was to learn how much people that do deliveries for a living are charging.

What you folks told me was that the most common value for a Courier delivery was about $10. Presumably, they make a "reasonable" profit at that price.

Contrast that with TFTD800. They allocate $7 for delivery. With discounts, that nets out at little over $5 paid to the florist per delivery. That is about HALF the amount that a courier company earns.

It seems highly unlikely that any courier operation could stay in business if their revenues were HALF what they are today.

But that is what TFTD800 is paying US!

Is there some explanation as to HOW florists can do something PROFITABLY that a professional Courier cannot do? If not, then either TFTD800 has never done this simple exercise (and are ignorant of this information) OR they are SAYING they want to support "their" florists while their ACTIONS indicate otherwise.

So, are they Hypocrits or Ignorant?

All the best,

Bill

Oh, if there is one thing they are not is ignorant. They are smart. They know that there are enough florists who will accept $7. That is what the market will bear. Only when florists set their own prices and make the WS accept that will anything change. In the meantime, too many florists remain enslaved.

It's in the hands of the receiving florist, isn't it? When that order comes to you, and it's not sufficiently priced for your delivery, either ask for more $$ or reject it. If all w/s junkies would just do that, perhaps the w/s will increase their delivery allotment.
Me? I don't even belong to a w/s anymore but when I did, I was ALWAYS asking for more $$. If they said no, so did I.

There were 25 of us at TF's recent Business Summit. One of the first things we were advised to do, was look at our costs for delivery. Almost every one of us was advised to raise our delivery charges. Paul Goodman has written articles about this. It is up to the filling florist to ask for what they need.

Sending florists must also pay attention to the delivery charge the filling florist needs. Sometimes I think the sending florists put in the delivery charge they normally get and not what is requested by the filling florist.

There is a "small problem" with this strategy.

Every time that a florist receives an order, that florist is charged a fee. If the sending florist cancels the order, the fee is removed. If the receiving florist refuses the order, the fee remains.

So, TFTD800 also makes money every time an order is refused. And every time a florist refuses an order, it costs him/her money.

I usually see a reply from TF HQ to my price increase request saying that I should reject it if I cannot fill for the price offered. When I receive that message, I HOLD the order until noon of the requested delivery date. IF we receive another order going to that general area, I will usually fill the order. If there are no other orders going nearby, I will reject it.

They are finding enough florists to come out and play for now. And in case the florists ever tire of their playground, they are offering more and more drop ships so they can switch their whole business model to drop ship in the future. The only way florists stand a chance in survival in a WS world is to be in control of setting their own prices and policies. The florists have a choice to accept or decline their offer.
