OK...I must be upfront this is a question for my own wedding reception which is at the end of September, but I need advice!

I want to have a SMASHING wedding reception. Everything is going to be red with gold accents-chinese themed. Red linens, red vases, red napkins, red favor boxes, red velvet cake, red lights, gold painted galax leafs for table decor, enormous red lanterns, gold foo dogs, floor spots with red gels, many etcs. But I have a problem. We are having this reception in a chinese resturaunt banquet room. Its OOKKAAYY looking but its really not very exciting. OK my problem is-I want to do pipe and drape all around the room in red fabric. I have all of the red fabric but I am looking for other options for the "pipe." Pipe and drape would not work in this room because it has beams that run parallel on the ceiling and would totally get in the way, besides the ceilings arent terribly tall. How have others gotten around this problem?
I have been tooling with the idea of getting a BUNCH of the 3M sticky hangers that leave no residue (I cannot put holes in the walls) and sticking them up near the ceiling and hanging fabric from them, but I am alittle bit nervous about them not holding. Someone gave me the idea of building a bunch of screens but I really dont want like that option.
Also, has anyone used those 3M hooks on popcorn celings? I am going to give it a test in a couple of days-I am wanting to hang the big lanterns from them.
Oh, and yes, we are going to have Karaoke.
Thanks for all your ideas!

Congratulations there bride-to-be !!
Sounds like it will be a fab reception...(are all our invitations in the mail ???) :)
Will put our thinking caps on for some ideas for you....if you can't find a solution here...it ain't out there!!
Got any pics of the venue??

We used this technique a few years for a prom decoration.....we used to decorate a high school cafeteria for prom.

Anyway - Build a frame of pvc pipe....put some feet on it to make it freestanding......cover it with red ribbon or paper or something to hid the pvc, then use red gossamer fabric overlaid with twinkle lights behind the gossamer.

Congratulations Angela!!!!

I have used the 3M sticky hoos on walls before and they have worked great!
I am wondering if you could use these between the beams and attach a thin cable to them? You could then put a seam in your fabric and hang them like a curtin or put gromits (sp?) in the fabric. As far as the ceiling I wonder if they will let you use small tacks?
Best of luck and it sound like it is going to be beautiful!

Another tip - If there is a ledge or edge that the celing sits on....like a tile celing has a metal edge - You can use the black metal cips to hold the fabric up....similar to a clothespin on a line.

I used the 3 M hooks on a heavy duty commercial wall paper to hang permanant christmas garland a couple of years ago, they held at first but then fell off the walls. You might want to test especially if the surface is similar and the fabric is heavy. It would not hold to popcorn ceilings and probably not rough wood surfaces.
