About a half hour ago, I had a phone call from one the funeral homes.

He told me one of my HS classmates and a friend died yesterday of a heart attack. I am friends with both her and her husband. We all went to high school together.

If it wasn't for me cheating off of Mary's (the deceased) Latin tests, I never would have gotten those A's in Latin my freshman and sophomore years!

John, her husband, and I have been immortalized in a our Senior class yearbook with a picture of us two arm and arm dancing together at our Senior Prom. It's not a pretty picture, but it still brings a smile to my face. We were/are a couple of goofs.

Anyway, here is the quesition. The family wants a multi-colored rose casket spray. I am not a big fan of this type of casket spray but this is what the family wants.

I am looking for some suggestions or pictures to make casket spray look better.

thanks in advance

Joe I'm sorry you lost a friend. You have great memories built around this person... that's a gift.

I do love multi-coloured sprays, but I group the colours, like in a garden.

V

Joe, sorry to hear about your dear friend.

My thoughts were to unite the different colors with fillers and a ribbon that runs through the design. (something like a birthstone ring).

Victoria, you're idea is very clever.

I hope you post your design solution, I am sure it will be a beautiful tribute.

I would do it in groupings, also if possible use a couple of groupings of spray roses or sweetheart roses..........follow through with different types of greens / fillers to accent each group.

check out this one......not all roses but grouped......take it from there Grouped Casket Spray

Thank you for the sentiments....

I like the idea of grouping,, if it is a monchromatic arrangement using different types, shapes and size of flowers that would be good.

I am having a problem with grouping mutliple colored roses.

I also like the spray roses to create an additional design element.

I want to do this right and with meaning....

Mary had six Brother and sisters, John 12, they have two sons, and one granddaughter. They have been married for 27 years.

I want to represent certain colored roses with these numbers. For John I want to do 12 red roses., his sibling 12 of someother color, for her siblings 6 of a different color, 2 roses of a different color for their sones and 1 white rose for the grandaughter.

Now I am thinking about foliages.... any advice?

First, Joe our sympathies to you as well.....Sorry I got involved in trying to help you out that I forgot to add our condolences.

I would start off with 27 yellow roses (27 years of love) on a slight angle starting from top left just a little left of center through the center of the spray and and down. I would use the 12 red flowing to the left (open part of casket) then 6 ..?... roses flowing to the right slightly above the yellow trailing ones. The 12 roses for his siblings I would split into 2 groups going up from left (just below the red roses) and maybe 1 or 2 through the center following up just above the 6..?.... roses. The white rose should be in the center of the spray surrounded by the 2 roses from his sons. As for greens I would use something trailing down the front (sperngeri / ruscus / seeded euc etc.) then to the right something a little heavier (aspidestra / ti leaves etc. or even a small monstera leaf) to the left I would use shorter greens as you don't want stuff flowing into the open part of the casket so maybe ( Var Pitt / ming fern etc.) making sure you follow through the center with some of the various the greens. I would still add a few spray or sweetheart roses between the groupings if there is room........you don't want to cram it and take away from the design.........(that's what I tend to do, it looks great and I think just one more flower and then oh... one more and they usually take away from the look)

It's a lot easier to do than to describe with words so I hope it makes sense.

John, you are making smile...

you design the way i do.... well just one more here and or there...

27 yellow roses, two red one white. is 30 roses.... then i can do 6 more for her brothers and sisters. that will take me to 36.

I normally use 42 roses in an all rose casket. I like the idea of aspidistra and was already thinking italian ruscus.

The key is to not over do it.

I am planning on writing John a note and letting him know the meaning of the roses and their numbers.

A couple years ago, I did this same thing with an uncle of mine.. I did an all rose casket spray with 6 callas brought through on a diagonal from high left to low right as you faced the casket spray.. the callas represented his brothers and sisters. He was a farmer, so instead of using filler I used wheat.
From here on as a brother or sister dies, I eliminate a calla and replace it with another flower.

Joe

Italian ruscus, variegated ligustrum, plumosus, springeri, baby blue eucalyptus, silver dollar eucalyptus are good draping greens. Hypericum berries look nice and so does queen anne's lace, especially for a female.

Some of our casket sprays

RC in Dayton and Cincinnati

Simply Breathtaking!!!!

I love how each spray stands out from the black!

You have a rare talent and are truly Blessed! I absolutely love the cross and heart as main vocal point of casket piece, very rare .......Not usually displayed that way in the Southern states. (always on stands)
You seem to be blessed with picture taking as well!

Our Condolences Joe.
The thought that went into the piece far outweighs what I'm sure was a spectacular display.

Joe, how sad to learn of this dear friend's death! You have some wonderful memories to cherish.

I'd use a single accent flower to provide the unifying factor. I'd make the spray lush with mixed greenery, but no variegated foliage because it might take away from the other colors.

This is in no way meant to criticize the other great suggestions. Just my .02.

If you've never looked at his website, take a few minutes and be inspired.

Well, I received a phone call from the FD..... it's now all white roses.

I made it this afternoon, I greened it up with Emerald, LL, Tree fern, Aspidistra, Italian Ruscus, and varigated pitisorum.

I didn't cout the roses but used a combination of Escimo and Virginias. If I had to guess probably 60.

No bow. but i have to incorporate a couple ribbons.

Anna, aka Mrs Mioux, delivered something to John this afternoon. After some tears and a hug, John told Anna, "tell Joe to make it nice for Mary".

It is.

Joe

P.S. I took a pic of it this time.

I hope we'll get to see a picture when you have time. I'm sure it's wonderful!

Beth :~)

It sounds beautiful. Can hardly wait to see the pictures!

It looks today, we will be busier than VDay.

Three funerals all going out. I am estimating somewhere around 90 pieces that need to be made up today.

So, I am signing off.

Will post some pics of things that maybe of interest, if time permits.

Bye

Your work is just breathtaking!!!!!!!!!!!
You have so much creativity in all your photos.
Your website is awesome as well :)

here are a some pics as promised... my last primping is usually done at the funeal home when the CS is on the casket. It is easier to see holes, where flowers need to go their sometimes than it is on my design table.
