Looking at the pictures of all of the hats on parade for the royal wedding, I see this as a huge opportunity for florists. I predict......

What do you think? Right after Mother's Day, I'm going to start making them, I think this is going to be big with our younger generation, I really do.

When I was in Atlanta at the gift show in January, I saw a trend for funky decorated headbands. Many of the vendors had them for holiGallerie II halloween headbands.jpgdays...RAZ, Melrose, Gallerie II, etc. We decided we were going to have some classes this year for them. Especially for some Halloween ones! I waGallerie II hoiday headbands.jpgnted to do an Easter class but I just couldn't fit it in this spring. Now that the fascinators have become such a focus for the Royal Wedding, I'm Carmen Miranda headband.jpgsure the class will be a hit!
Here are some pics of some of the ones we saw at market. I would like to make ours a lot bigger and grander though!

WTH with the picture uploader?

I did used to make bead and wire mini fascinators on clips and grips - they sold well for about a year then stopped selling but I may have another look at these but put a new spin on them. I did think about studying millinery when I left school but it was soooo difficult to get onto courses then. Maybe I my still go for it in a few years. I haven't hit forty yet so I still have time.

These would be fun for Prom or Homecoming if you could get them to catch on. Didn't care for the ones at the Royal wedding, but I like the funky cute ones for Halloween, etc.

We make them for fun for ourselves and the artsy hipster crowd from time to time. I'd love to see them catch on with brides using fresh flowers, but most folks around here go the Etsy crafter route.

Here's one I did for a mardi gras party.

Very cool Cathy! What did you use as your base?

I used a piece of flocked paper I had as the base. Cut a slit into it and overlapped it to make it curve just a bit. Glued everything on and bobby pinned it to my head. There was a lot of stuff on there and because it sits to the side, I kept thinking it felt like it was falling off. It took a while to get used to it.

I may try making some of them for experimentation........however, inlight of what Cathy said about the feeling of falling off........I wonder........what about some of the pre-made buckram frames that milleners use..........that are actually designed to sit on the head.

Nope but if you are studying for a couple of year or so then wanting to start a new career - I could be 50 by the time I got around to it. I bet it would be at least a minimum of 5 years before I could even start thinking about a career change.
Don't think there would be much point if I left it much longer as I would like to retire at 50 or 55 - but I could always have it as a fun hobby.
