what it is the hubby and I are doing with regards to our finances.

we are on this plan called "Total Money Makeover" by Dave Ramsey. You might recognize the name because he does have a radio show. Here's his website: www.daveramsey.com

It's worth reading and checking out! We bought the book (on sale at B & N) and read it in a week.

We have been on the same page for the first time in our entire marriage about finances. We do the budget together!! TOGETHER!!
So anyway we got to the point where we needed a solution due to us being stationed here in CA and still owning our house in IL...tenants being late and WHOLE lot of other stuff that we are trying to come back from.
We knew some people that did this program and we've heard the show on occasion...I did sign up for his newsletters and then one day a few weeks ago I got it. I read it and it hit home...I grabbed the hubby and said THIS is what we need to do. He said ok...As a family we went to B&N and got the book.
We have been working the program since. We've come up with what we are comfortable doing to reach the first 2 steps (garage sale selling furniture, kick knacks, insignificant items). We've done a budget for the next 4 months, of course it willbe adjusted since I am happy to announce THE HUBBY GOT A 2ND JOB!! WOOHOO! He had an interview today and he got it. So we are now looking at an additional income that will REALLY help with our plan.

I urge and encourage those who need it and WANT to change their ways to start with his book. It will open your eyes or if you believe your eyes are already open then it will motivate you most definitely!!

Aileen,

You go, girl. Dave Ramsey is awesome!! Hubby and I own our house outright, and have been debt-free for several years... except (gulp) now we have a small loan for part of my daughter's college tuition. But we will not get back into the situation we were in before!

I heart Dave.
He helps so many peeps. I love his podcast.

My hub and I did a similar type of program and it really helped us. We keep a budget and do our finances together.

I hope you stick with it Miss Aileen! It will change your life.

Thanks you two!! We are determined with a vengeance to get out of debt and stay that way. We are determined to pay for things with cash, to SAVE up for big items and live!! TRULY LIVE without all the worry that comes along with credit cards, loans, etc!! for me, it's not only the worry of our daughter's college but the twins' as well. I think of college for both at the same time...AYE! Although we think the boys will end up joining the service...just got that hunch. ;)

Aileen,

I forgot you have twins. Do you know I have triplets? They're about to turn 19. My dgtr went to college. One boy is enlisting in the Coast Guard. The other works in a pizza parlor, and seems content there (!!). And then we have a 9 year old too. They really do cost more the older they get. You're smart to get a handle on this now! :~)

And another meaning for USMC!

You're a TRIP Aileen!

Here's another meaning from your sweatshirt insignia which needs to be applied to YOU and that Marine Corps Husband of yours.

God Bless and Keep the Faith! You'll all be fine!

Dave Ramsey! That's what I was hoping you were doing. I took a similar course which used his book. One of my twins took the course and lives daily by it. It is a real eye-opener. Which reminds me, I need to redo my budget. BTW, the leader of the course which I also took helped me a lot when I was contemplating moving my shop. He provides some free--no strings attached-- calculators and other items at his website. I'll try to find the website name later today.

Best of luck to you Aileen!

TOTO, You're awesome! Love that new acronym!

Oh and BTW that's a t-shirt I'm wearing in that pic...my hubby's favorite since it's a bit form fitting (uhhum) and accentuates me in a way that he's smitten about! :tongue :) Thanks again!

Beth, I do recall you having triplets! Thank you for the compliment on my being smart...LOL...I guess my sudden panic which led to a realization of what will come can be interpreted that way!! lol

Look forward to checking that out Connie! Thanks for the well wishes! I can't wait to see this plan in full force.
