THis morning it came to me, WHO RAISES PRICES AT VALENTINE>?

Is it the farms? the wholesaler?

Why am I asking this?
If someone can buy roses on flowerbuyer.com slightly higher that what we are currently paying, is the wholesaler taking advantage of us and they are raising their prices to make a $$$$$. I mean as a wholesaler, they must have a deal with the farms they deal year round to get the best price they can.

So I am going ot ask this very same question to my supplier of roses today and see his response.

Maybe you should do the same to yours.

I believe they will tell you supply & demand for the specific flowers. Although all the trucks raise their prices on every flower and green at holiday times here, I find most of the prices on auctions pretty much stay the same except for those flowers highlighted in wire service specials and of course roses. Don't you notice how the prices immediately drop the day after the holiday most of the time? Demand is down the day after, the prices drop to get rid of the supply. IMHO

local pricing

I find it amazing the price increase for 06 val day by some of our local wholesalers.
They all seem to be keeping their sale margin (ie: limonium $10-$11/ bunch, roses $1.65-$2.35/st, Poms $3.50 bu, mini $4, carns .37+ gerbs $1.15/stem etc) and expect us to decrease our margins to as to not price ourselves right out of the market.

I belong to group of 6, we have banded together are a co-op buying now. Not only for everyday items but also in a bigger way for Valentines product. We are saving 30-40% easily on stock items and easily 50% on roses at val. I myself have purchased from companies like fb, gerbi, june etc just now I buy bigger quanities and it gets split. Our cost of goods has come down and it is making it a little easier to survive in this tough mark

Alot of the increase has to do with fuel charges. Everyone (airlines, trucklines etc.) raised the fuel charges for the Valentine holiday. Some large truck companies increased frieght by 20% beginning yesterday. The airlines have to have alot more shipments to bring the volume of flowers in. So it all trickles down.
