where in the world would you take a design class? What would be your dream school/instructor/workshop??

I'd first go to Holland for a year, then I'd go to germany for a while, then I'd go to Japan for a year or so.

But for sure Holland first. Don't know what school, I'd figure it out when I got there.

I' hire right away Ms. Hitomi and Tomas De Bruyne (Belgium) to be my private instructors in floral design and Andy Goldsworthy in sculpture. when it comes to european schools......i've heard and seen interesting things from Swisse school.......i might spell it wrong but i think it's called Atelier 5 with Peter Hess (in this case i'm sure i misspelled his name). they teach not only floral design but also basics of land-art.........not exactly land-art in my understanding.....but very interesting any way..........
why do you ask????? did you win a lottery?????? :0)

I'd start at home, or at least North America... Phil Rulloda's School. When I was starting out that was a dream for me.

Then I'd move on to Europe.

I would start off with a couple of Phil's classes, then get some private instruction from Paula Pryke, take classes from Gregor Lersch sp? and Hitomi.. then I would probably follow sklepikova to those classes! :>

No I didn't win the lottery!! I wish!!! I was just doing a bit of research and thought to myself-"If money was no object, where do I want to go to school to furthur my design education?" Then I thought that would be a fun topic to post on FC. So I did.

For me if money was no object, I'd go to Jane Packer's school, take workshops from those already mentioned... then I'd go work for Teresa in Ireland for a month, then someone in England for a month, then someone in Italy for a month, then someone in France for a month, then Hong Kong, Holland, Germany, .....see the pattern?? This would be my dream!

If your gonna dream.... dream BIG. Had a hands on 3 day work shop with Phil..
If I had the money... He is a great "Can DO It" kind of teacher, all of the AIFD
students in that class, thought I was in over my head, but he put every one on the same level.... Connie walked in and worked at my table, I was really at home. You don't waste your money in his class, I had to come home and take a nap!! Fun.. Fun.... Fun...worked hard. hehe

I wouldn't limit myself to one (since I'd have all the money needed.....I would also go to Holland, Italy, and UK. I would also go to Phil's school.

I would then go and see Preston Bailey, Tony Robbins, and John Maxwell. Why? Because I would want to learn more about presentation, having faith in myself, and having faith in others.

So many good ideas here, I want to do them all!

Last June, there was a week long workshop in Corsica (I think) led by Gregor Lersch. It combined floristry (à la Lersch) with local cuisine and architecture. I couldn't afford it, but that would be a dream come true for me.

Was this the workshop that was held at the Tech school in Pendleton?? - Pam Roland was the organizer of that particular class.

I recall Phil presenting Pam with a pair of Japanese Steel Pruners......during the class. If this was the same class - That was the one I attended.

You are soo right! I was just thinking design wise.

Well if we're also bringing in sales/presentation. I'd go with Jon Gordon, Jeffrey Gitomer, and my favorite Marine, my husband Sam who is a very talented sales/motivational/speech/recruiting instructor.

For finances I'd go with Dave Ramsey!!!

actually, talking about schools.....every year in Italy, in San Remo i believe, a contest is held among different flower schools from different countries (only one school per country)..... i know US was represented there as well this year though i didn't see any names of that school.....and i believe this year Sweden took first place. it might be very interesting information if you are looking for a very good flower school

here's a link to italian website of this contest:
http://www.festivaldeifiori.it
everything's in italian of course but there are many pictures. the contest had two parts. the first one was to decorate a spece according to the chosen topic. this year it was "fairy tale creatures" and US team had a unicorne. the second part was to make a window display with the name "San Remo"

I would do all the biggies; Phil, Hitomi, mostly US and maybe some in Paris and England just 'cause. I'd also be taking a lot of art classes along with them. That would be my dream, just to spend my time learning new arts like watercolor, goldsmithing, enameling, etc. etc. - along with more floral design techniques.

I'd love to go to Japan and study the art of Ikebana and Bonsai. Studying Asian design principles would be a dream...I could study and design while taking in the beauty of the zenlike Japanese gardens....ahhhh!

i don't consider ikebana to be a design.........it's far more than it....it's another way to study yourself, a form of meditation,......

I haven't yet answered this question, but gave it a lot of thought......I would take a quarter year ( 3 months time ) and travel to four shops and spend my time being educated. 3 months at each store

Design and Marketing - Oberers Florist ( RC and Dayton and Cinncinnati )
Business management - Mouix Florist ( Joe Mouix )
Sales and Market analysis - Flowers insolita ( Goldfish )
Internet and Web Marketing - Avante-Gardens ( CHR )

---------------------------------------------------------

Now, refering to just design - No question - I would travel to Australia and work with an FC'er named Franca Logan......Her floral artistry is light years beyond what I can concieve.

That was the seminar. Actually, most of the students in that seminar went on to get their AIFD--they didn't have it when they were in the classes. That's how inspirational Phil is, that so many out of that class went on to get their AIFD.

If money were no object, my first classes would be with Phil, no second thoughts on that. He is definitely a master teacher...on many levels.
