What things about FTD & TF did you not like? Fees? Pay for books? Did you thing there were any unreasonable requirements? What things weren't being done that you would have liked to see?

The reason I ask is because I am the new Business Development Manager for a wire service. My job is to create a STRONG network. Since I am very green to this industry, I'm having to learn as I go and I want to create programs that benefit florists as well as the company I work for.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Green employees is a problem....no clue!
rebates are a problem......
order gatherers are a problem.......

And your company has all 3 traits rolled up in one!!

I only charge $25 - $35 / hr, depending on the service required. Happy to help :)

More Info...

- The wire service is Flowergram, not British Flowergram.

- Rebates? So, is the process of rebates a problem with wire services or would you prefer to not even deal with them?

- Order gatherers? How so? The process of receiving orders or placing them?

- As for being "green", I personally like to think of it as a plus. I may come up with new ideas or programs that wouldn't necessarily be common in the "floral industry"

Again, I am looking for some constructive criticism/feedback from those that really know the floral industry.

Thanks!

-Rebates!! That is what put this business in the mess it's in in the first place, and your just playing with numbers offering $7.00 rebate!! with adding the $9.95 service charge to the value of the order and then giving a 25% commission plus rebate!!!!!! Why would I give you the service charge in the first place???

-Order Gatherers That's what the company you work for is, because they offer flowers for sale to the consumer without having a REAL FLOWER SHOP!!!!

-Green That's the problem, you like many others have no clue what it takes to run a FLOWER SHOP!!! And it sure ain't filling orders and delivering them at 73%!!!!!

Maybe you should take up Peter's offer because he does have a clue as to what's going on in this business......or take Ryan's offer @ $25.00 per hour, cause I don't think it would take him more than 1 hour to tell you what's wrong with your system!!!

That's right John about all the above and also about the Green part, its not a thing you can learn as you go to run a wire service.

You have to put in the time in the trade working in the trenchs not studying for a MBA, and knowing how to run a business helps a great deal. After 20+ yrs in the trade, I still learn something new everyday from someone or something in this business.

I wonder if I would be better off...

Bulldozing our shop on our One Acre lot which we own and putting in a Fast Food Restaurant or one of those Storage Unit Businesses?

Ain't this crappola becoming tiresome? Heck I could make more money storing peoples crap in a 4x5 space than selling a Rose.

This business is not that fun anymore is it ....

Don't give up yet Blue-Man. The wolves are slowly being turned away from the doors, and we'll get this ship going back in the right direction, the trade didn't go bad over night, and it won't get fixed over night, but it will GET FIXED.

While you're on Alexa, use the option to compare flowergram.com to flowerchat.com - and see how we're kicking some ass!

Hey Shel, don;t think I'm not looking into what you said... I find it much more profitable to rent out my space by the hour than to do posey's some days....

Currentl;y in negotiations with two developers, you have seen my property, they are planning on adding in 40 some two story town-homes around my building...

Maybe it'll end up like that dude in NYC (?) that did not sell, and they built the high rise around him...

And another thing "Flowergram"

As you have read, if you did, you can get a clue as to what REAL FLORISTS think of your type of operation. I would assume that your look into change may be the result of US beginning to make inraods into your ability to get your JUNK ORDERS filled, as we become very clever and astute at ferreting out where the orders we do fill are coming from.

There are possible ways to accomplish that which you say you covet, HOWEVER that being the case, it will ONLY be accomplished by REAL FLORISTS and its already being worked in a few places (although covertly, and underground at this point) but when its done, companies like Flowergram will be cut out of the REAL FLORIST loop, and having no where to go, will most likely dry up and blow away.

There are many companies doing the same as Flowergram, most larger and more experienced, and even they, consult those of us in the trenches from time to time...sad thing in, and I suspect the same in your case, they don;t listen too well to REAL FLORISTS, cuz if they did, in one case, I'd have had them fixed a year back...but they still keep calling, consulting, and PAYING...

Sign me... BOSS for a reason...
