If you HAD to buy flowers...

Which is one very good reason why it is important to stay friendly with the competition! I am amazed at how many florists in this town are so nasty to one another. I have made an effort to meet everyone and be as cordial as possible -- it really pays off when you need a pink lily!

Amen Lorrie!! I have used my "buddy" florist in a neighboring town more than once for situations like these. By the way...where in Hollywood are you located? I have relatives that work for Keyes Realtors and live in Weston and Hollywood. Ever eaten at Ocean's Eleven? LOVE that place!! :)

I voted none of the above because there wasn't an "all of the above" it really all depends on the situation. If another florist doesn't have what I need, I have checked at Sams. If all else fails I check with the customer and see if it is alright with them if we sub something else.
:) Heather

In my over 30 years, I have had only one other florist (locally) be able to help me but for years, all the other shops have come to me for something they needed desperately which I usually supplied. I have stopped that practice as they were getting needier and needier and NEVER had anything I needed quickly (so they said). I have a friend over an hour from me who will supply me with things I may not be able to get. BUT I voted other because #1 I would not take an order knowing I couldn't get the items requested, would ask for second choice from local folks and would immediately send an ask question (if wire service order) requesting second choice. Or probably ask for delivery to wait 1 day (if possible) for one of my two wholesalers to provide me the lilies.
Because we are rural and away from wholesalers-depend on truck deliveries- my motto has always been "Do Not Sell What We Do Not Have" right after the ultimate motto "You Can Only Do What You Can Do".
BTW-What is "something close to pink lilies?"

I voted the grocery store because we have two different huge produce stores that sell flowers and nice ones at that. In a pinch we have founf what we need there. I also try other florist's but they usually don't have what we need either. Like Rhonda, I would try my best not to sell something I don't have and we also tell people we will sub if we can't get it and if they are fine then we do it, if they act all put off then we try harder. Never thought of spraying lilies. I wonder how that would turn out.

As with Rhonda, we are part of a group of florists who are very friendly and help each other whenever we can. Some florists do take advantage of that friendship, so I'm learning to be a bit more careful.

We sprayed lilies purple for a wedding bouquet, and the bride loved them. We used Just for Flowers and sprayed very lightly a few times in order to achieve the tint that she wanted.
