I'll miss you guys!

Early tomorrow I fly to Anchorage, Alaska. I will meet a girlfriend from Calgary there... her flight arrives 1 hour after mine. We'll drive south past Alyeska Ski Resort and Portage Glacier, to Seward. We'll do a day cruise around Resurrection Bay (sea life, glaciers, barbecued salmon lunch on an island). Then we drive south to Homer (to bum around and possibly whale watch). Then back up thru Anchorage to Palmer for the Alaska State Fair (think world famous giant flowers and veggies), then back to Anchorage and home.

It's my third trip to AK, but my first time to that specific part of AK. I can't wait! :headbang:

I'll see you all again on the 28th!

Beth :~)

Wow, am I . . .

jealous.

Been there, done that, but I would love to do it again.

Have fun and watch out for bears.

Have a safe and fun filled journey... be prepared to share with us in words and pictures. :)

Homer is the twin star of Key West, FL and I had a blast there. If you have time, take in Halibut Cove (12 mile boat ride across Kachemak Bay, across the inlet from the Homer Spit) and its arts community.

I'm jealous. Loved our Alaska visit and hope to get back there next year. Have a great time!

So this is what unemployed florists do with their time off? ;)
I'm doing something wrong. really wrong!
Joe

that's what I was thinkin Joe......she's stolen MY TRIP!!:purpletea

Thanks everyone! Next time we should arrange a trip to Alaska for FCers!

Cathy... I'm making a note about Halibut Cove... sounds like a definite must-do! Thanks!

Have a great time, Beth, and we'll being looking for some pictures and stories when you return!

Alaska!

Hey,our days are longer than 4 hours in the winter! We still have over 15 hour days right now and sunset doesn't mean dark, dark!
We call Homer the 'riviera' of Alaska. The state fair is great-always rains t for most of it. Wear a poncho to any of the outdoor concerts.
Veges are huge. Flowers are OK. They just grow really, really fast.

This is an AWESOME place to live. The air here is so crisp and clean and we have ice water on tap all year.

I recomend hiking or 4-wheeling out Eklutna Lake. It's just past Eagle River and is a 17 mile trail around one side of the lake where our city's water comes from. You can hike to the glacier that feeds the lake. It is close and so beautiful. You can pick berries, see mtn goats, sheep, eagles, ptarmigan, and hopefully not, bears.

Welcome to my state! Robin

Beth, have a wonderful trip! I spent the summer there years ago and just fell in love with the state. Planning a trip there this winter ( you read it right) if I can pull it all together. Got to see the dog sled race and want to go past the circle to experiance the arctic in winter-just for a few days. Not sure this FL gal will last much longer in the cold.
Have fun, I'll be thinking of you!

Hi Robin,

I'm totally kicking myself that I didn't see your post, or remember that you are in Anchorage before I left!

We had an awesome time, but missed Eklutna Lake. I LOVE the Mat-Su Valley, and Homer ... I swear it's HEAVEN on Earth. That view of it spread out before you, about 3 miles north of town, when you round the turn, and there it is. Wow! There are no words!

We got so lucky with weather. The first few days were drizzly and foggy. Didn't get a good view of the volcanoes across Resurrection Bay, unfortunately (I'm a volcano fan, living just a few miles from Mt. St. Helens). But then it cleared up, and we got 73 degrees and sun, sun and more sun for the State Fair. They quoted 10,000 cars on the evening news, so there must have been 20,000 - 40,000 people there, don't you think? I could hardly move, so I believe it. Will post some pics, especially of the flowers and veggies, in a few days.

Robin, I promise to stop by and meet you, next trip! And there will definitely be a 4th trip. I'm in love with the place!!

If anyone would like to see my pics... try this link:
http://www.kodakgallery.com/I.jsp?c=tz2fr6l.b85ffkoh&x=0&y=-fpwlik

You don't have to sign up or sign in to view the pics.. just click View Slideshow then Play. Unfortunately, I don't have pics of the mama and baby moose that walked in front of us on the road... my friend got them on her camera. About halfway through are the pics from the State Fair. The veggies were huge, and like Robin said, the flowers are lovely but not overly huge.. altho some of the dahlias WERE.

If that link doesn't work, email me and I'll get Kodak Gallery to send you a direct link.
