I have more shops calling me asking for advice. There biggest concern is there website and the very first thing I ask them regardless of what website they use. How many of their own images are being used?
Here's a challenge for everyone. You have one week to take a picture of a dozen red roses and add it to your website. If you can do that then you are one step closer to promoting your own business.
I thought I would add another tip to this. While there are some who believe that DMOZ is pretty much dead, and the search engines aren't using it any more, I tend to disagree to some extent.
Google is still using DMOZ descriptions on some people's pages, including mine, so the MUST be some validity to DMOZ left. Not only that, if you are looking for links, this is one great way to get them, because many the new directories being built and old ones being updated still use the DMOZ database to get started.
Here is the meta tag code to use to eliminate Google or others from using the DMOZ description is you are having this issue.

Anyway, about the images, I have been told that to be a "Florist" in DMOZ you have to have your own images. I assume that some florists made up this rule to keep wire service images out of the florist directories.
As I still think that DMOZ has some pull, not like it used to, but some, this is as good a reason as any to create your own images.
I know from experience that it isn't easy, but our new website will contain some of our own and some of the stock images. I hope this is enough to sway the DMOZ editors in our favor, because no matter what they say, we are florists, not just "Flowers and Gifts".
Because we are "Dragonfly FLOWERS" I have enough backlinks with the word flowers in it!
