In need of dahlias...

I would like to use dahlias at an early July party. My local supplier (Boston) says no-can-do. Dahlias are best in August which I have always abided by. I have never strayed far from my local supplier but I'm wondering if I can get the dahlias somewhere else. Any suggestions?

Not 100% sure but seem to remember that the Dutch season starts around end of June, you could best check that with your/a Dutch supplier.
My other thought is, and not knowing the US market much at all, but does their season start earlier the further south you go in your country, could you check with suppliers/FC members in more Southern States?
(reason I say that, our hydrangea season just finished about 5 weeks ago, low and behold: they just peaked and are still going on the south island and we just got the most beautiful heads in, different latitudes and growth peak times, could be the same there?)

My next suggestion would be to take a second choice for flowers just in case, best of luck

Dahlias have been on our supplier's (Delaware Valley Wholesale) inventory list since April, but I haven't personally seen them - too spendy for our customers for the most part. We are planting a few plants this year, in hopes of growing some specialty flowers for our arrangements - dahlia, hydrangea, peony.

You can also give Baystate Farms a call, they're usually good with things like this and they deliver to the Cape daily from their Cranston RI branch, 800-955-4300.

I have Dahlias in my cooler right now. I usually have them almost all summer. I got them from Kennicott (one of my local suppliers). They are beautiful!!!!!!

Dahlias in the cooler here, too. Purchased from Mayesh. My guess is they're California grown (based on the amount of foliage shipped on the stem.)

Maybe they're concerned about promising a specific color or variety?
