I need to make an infant casket spray. Quite honestly, I have never made
or have seen one before. Do you use something special for the container,
is there an infant size casket saddle, or do I even need one?
I read somewhere online that it is like a "large corsage".
Surely, it should be larger than that?
Would love a tip or two.
Oh yeah, the order was called in direct from another florist who gave us $68.98
for this piece and it is to have casa lilies, daisies and roses.
I called the florist back and asked her what she was thinking and her comment
was,
" yeah, we couldn't do it for that amount either...that is why we are
sending it to you."
Nice!!
She did give me 100.00 for the piece though.
Thanks for any help.

We usually use a the small Oasis floracage and glue rubber matting to the back to prevent slipping.

Infant caskets are usually flat on top so there's no need to deal with a curved surface. Did you call the funeral home to get the casket dimensions?

The closest analogy I can think of is to make the spray kind of like a small head table arrangement for a wedding. Lower, somewhat elongated, domed top, with a slightly longer cascading area in the front.

Narrow cascading ribbons showering down can soften the look.

I believe Synidate makes an infant casket sadle.
Uses half of block of Oasis.
This is what I use. Generally the casket's dimensions are 28"long by 12"wide. Better call and find out.
I work with a yardstick under the spray.
Really uses very few flowers to complete.
I'll attach a couple I have done for infants recently.
Sad...

The first one is for twin boys. The second for pastor's baby, the baby's mom wanted happy.

I'm confused did you get $68.95 or did you get $100.00? I have always used the regular casket holder and just make it alot smaller. Just a few inches beyond the sides of the holder. I have had to attend some of these services so I know that it does work well on the casket. Many times the casket is closed is this one open or closed?

Unfortunately we do quite a few of these, we are probably the meth
capitol of Missouri, meth babies, parents on meth have the baby in bed with them & roll over & suffocate them--we've had 2 in the past 6 months, etc.
The first time I ever saw one made (34 yrs ago)I just knew my designer must be nuts, it just looked like a little centerpiece,
sometimes we make them in a little flat plastic centerpiece bowl, sometimes you need a small piece of that plastic stuff you can put
in a camper shelf to keep dishes from moving--that's to keep it from
moving in case the casket top isn't flat.

That is so, so sad.
Thanks for your information.

I used to make a sheath that included flowing ribbons and greens.

Best to call Funeral home and get the size of casket to be sure I know they come in different sizes.
They are sad to make I have had to make a few over the years.
The ones she googled and said they were on sale is just sick if you ask me.

ditto the comment about calling the funeral home.

Since this came from a shop and not the family or funeral home, you really need to know the type of casket before making the CS.

Most of the ones we do around here are complete open lid caskets, so we have to make something other than a casket spray.

I always have just used a small floral spray cage and cut off the handle and glue the non slip on the bottom... Has always worked great for me.

If I have to do a really really tiny one I will use an oasis igloo.

Sorry for late post on this, just found it. They are about 18 to 21" long if its a baby, table center piece is the size. It's sad to make them, but new borns aren't open. Cathy was right on with the style and shape. Hope all turned out well for you.

Marigold - Don't feel like you are by yourself here. I struggle with infant/baby casket sprays too. Primarily because of the extreme small size and the fact that I am just a big ole softie when it comes to kids and I get emotional. As my former co-workers can attest, I usually shed a few tears when I find myself having to make one.

I made the piece and it was lovely. I used a flat black oasis
container and added the non slip on the bottom.
It was for a fetal birth, the casket was only 17 inches long.
Thanks for everyone's advice.
