Hi everyone!

I'm new to this site and I find all the discussion threads really interesting!

Does someone know what the mechanics behind these types of design?
details11.jpg

It's from a company in Chicago that does amazing work and I have an upcoming wedding I'd like to do this type of design for...

Any help is very much appreciated!!
Thanks so much...

Welcome to this wonderful place!!
The initial hangers are just styrofoam sheets cut into initial shapes, Oasis floral glue, flower heads of your choice, wire and ribbon...that's it!!

We use the wire to make little hooks in the back to secure the ribbon to.

PS- Thank you for posting this pic!! I have a bride that wants these for her wedding and I couldn't find a pic that I liked anywhere!

Initials and Logos

We do this type of work a few times a year. I go to a hobby store and get some hooks that we put directly on the wooden(or whatever material they are) doors. I can't remember the name right now....but, they hold at least 25 pounds each and when removed after the event, there is absolutely no residue from the tape used. They are very easy to find in hobby stores. I think they are much easier to use than the ribbons and can be positioned at the perfect point of the door.

I couldn't believe these would really work so well....so, I tried them out on many surfaces before actually starting to use them at events.

Letters in flowers

Those are great tips! Thanks so much...
I was planing on using hydrangeas to create the letters and was hoping to use Oasis foam on top of the styrofoam. Has anyone done this? How was it all held together?

Thanks!

water picks?

I select a long lasting flower, like a mum, as shown, and then glue it.

For Hydrangea, what about water picks? I think the OASIS may be too heavy.

About Hydrangeas...has anyone tried the gel medium that they are packed in? Just curious if you hydrate them, and then repack in the gel, what would happen.

Hi Lally's!
We have done several monograms or initials and we find it very easy to just pick or glue the flowers. My favorite one to do is with styrofoam and plumosa garland. You simply cut out the letters and then cover them with garland using fern pins. You can then glue or water pick flowers in. It is quick and simple and can be done ahead of time. I have wondered about using oasis covered styro but I am thinking it would be very heavy.
Good luck and welcome to Flower Chat!

Initials and Logos

I have tried several ways....but, the most success was when I used some heavy plastic to cut out the letters and then glued oasis on that and also taped around that in case the glue came loose. I made a wire hook that went through the plastic before I put the oasis on it.

You can then insert the flowers directly into in the oasis. I soak mine upside down for an hour or so with the flowers inserted, then store in the cooler until time to use. With the hooks I suggested in an earlier post, there is no danger of it being too heavy and you have much more control of the finished piece than if you use water tubes.
