I guess no matter what we do, how we do it we can't get people to order early. My figures at not all in yet and will post them up next week. I will tell you thta this year I did not spend one dime on paper or radio adbertising and I know it did not make any difference on the numbers that came in.
A few minor set back in the flowers dept. but overall I am happy. It was a pleasure to REFUSE 3 1-800 orders on Sat for $29.95 US. and I flowers by Sears order they could not get the other shop that fills for them Sat. THis hawk is on the prowl. With FTD any order that was decent was accepted with a credit card. I had to refuse a few that just did dot make any sense.
I have worked so far from Sunday to last night 98 hours. When I went home at 7 last night after 38 hours straight, I had supper and went to bed. I fixed my clock for 7:30 wake up for this morning to catch last minute sales but for an odd reason yet, I got up much earlier. I thought all the clocks around the house were wrong until I got into my car and it was 7 this morning. In that case I might as well try to get the upper hand of things.
But I keep asking myself WHY this and that happen?
Poor staff after 8 hours they were tired last night....

Poor staff my arse.....

get "old" people to come work for you....we had a combined age of 288 years of life working here this mothers day, and NOT ONE GRIPE, and not ONE SIGN of "old age"!!
Mike

Tis true! My drivers are 67 and 57, I am (well, older), my designer (my daughter) is 36, her assistant is 54. The only one really young is the one who found out she is on prom court (16) and she lost a wire out!

staff

i have a combined staff total age 319 yrs young. We did 5 funerals this week plus mothers day ,plus large wedding and yes they were tired but worked their fingers to the bone, one of my girls had to leave at 830 am yesterday as her brother in law had passed at 8 am. We will do his funeral work tomorrow. I thank god for the loyal staff i have and the fact that they give me 120% when it is needed.Supplied coffee and lunch and what ever else they wanted as i know they give it their all Thanks to MY GIRLS!!!!! :yourock: Joanne

We were lucky this time around...not a funeral in sight...

We do not accept weddings on ANY holiday week, or for Fourth of July, Labor Day and Memorial Day.....

Thursday morning 10:30ish Advantage crashes, we're on manual mode. What a pain!.... New designer NO SHOW all week. Regular driver NO SHOW since two weeks ago!! hmmm... Regular designer, my mom and myself did it all. Wed and Thursday 15 hr days FRIDAY we were there until 2 am but we did leave sat at 11 pm! Most of my temp drivers showed. Had family members help with deliveries today. Didn't open the shop for walk ins because even I was out delivering. WHEW!! What a week. NO funerals - but we did have a small wedding on Saturday.

hehe...Me plus my sister (whom I fired many years ago but she is out of job right not so she did come to help, funny she couldn't get here on time when she was on the books LOL), my delivery girl/designer, and I worked 4 funerals, prom, 1 wedding and Mother's Day. My daughter (who will graduate with her BSN on Sat 15th) delivered Thurs-Sat non stop (I make her car payments till she graduates). My delivery girl kept asking "Why do we have 3 coolers full of basket arrangements?". She wasn't asking that Weds afternoon.... BTW, did you by chance do a wedding with a groom last name Doud? this weekend?........that would be a hoot if it was.
We made it...I had a wonderful day off and back tomorrow for clean up.....
Have graduation flowers for daughter's college ...hour drive but she's in charge of pinning ceremony cause of her grades and class ranking, so Mom gets to do the flowers. Hooray, oldest will graduate finally after serving 6 years in the Navy..will get her Nursing Pin Friday night, already has a job and already taking graduate courses towards her Nurse Practitioner next year. How great is life?? Pride in my two daughters....making it through Mother's Day with bare bones staffing...and praying our mill opens and economy does make a turn here in my little corner of the world...

Ever since we stopped filling all the ftd.com orders holidays are less stressful. I did fill some this year, but I rejected more than I filled that's for sure. My sister who used to work here a long time ago could not come this year. She was scheduled to work at her real job for the first time in years. She could not get out of it. We made it though. My niece came and brought her 10 month old and that was fun, I don't get to see them enough. She was extremely helpful. The lady that works for us on holidays put in a full week and she is 62 but full of energy and a real worker. We could not have made it without her. I am going to give her something more than just the pay she received. She deserves it, bigtime! Friday and Saturday deliveries were up quite a bit. Friday was the absolute busiest, but Saturday was quite busy also. Opened Sunday at 12:35-4:45 and sold everything that was not tied down. No funerals, no weddings, no catastrophe's, but also NO days off. Wednesday is my day off - yeah I can't wait! We always sell a bunch of odd things ON Mother's Day. They want gifts sometimes so grab any gifty looking thing that they see. People are in a hurry and they are not concerned with price much. Only had 8 deliveries for today that we took yesterday, but Neal said he would do them today. Only one re-delivery and one extra one that we took today. Overall, in my estimation a very good Mother's Day for us. I will be able to look back next year, have not been using POS for a year yet.

Say what ??
