I had an order going to Singapore last week for 50 long stem roses rarranged, and got a price of $400 from FTD's retrans department.

I went on the web and found my own florist in Singapore, called them, and the price they wanted was $75. I gave them $100 to make it extra nice for my customer, and paid them by paypal. They sent me a picture of what they had made and it was beautiful. No better or worse than anyone would have done, at least as good as my $400 would have gotten.

I'm wondering, had I just let it go thru retrans, who would have gotten the nice $325 tip?

I've always wondered about the high cost of Retrans on occasion. Having been to Europe I know the cost of flowers is much less than here. My customers have expressed the same thoughts.

If anyone is curious about how much FTD receives for orders from Europe (in particular UK through Interflora) check out prices at www.interflora.co.uk . Crimson Glow GBP 44.83 is C$ 92.12 and is on FTD site for US$ 49.95 or C$ 57.89. A Pointsettia is GBP 37.93 or C$ 78.00 !!! For a Point!!! If you've received orders from the UK how much did you receive???

have had great service & prices...

from ordering direct overseas, bypassing Retrans...
IF you remember the fiasco, FTD swipes a percentage from ALL retrans orders BEFORE forwarding them to you!!

Kind of like skimming isn't it. Refresh my memory which wireservice has been out in front and penalizing those florists who skim?

Remember Joe, rules don't apply to the wire service.
If they get caught, they don't care.
WE have lots of proof that they skimmed on interflora orders but NO ONE really believe Mikey or even Tried to back him up on this.
When Mikey let us know what was happening,. I would ALWAYS send a sk for 6 fleurin more and always got it.
Now I dont even bother with FTD.

Just had a call from Mike at FTD Int'l retrans asking if we'd (no longer FTD) fill an order from the UK for our town. It was ftd c8-3078 Love in Bloom bouquet for a total of C$ 52.80 including delivery and tax. I politely (well almost) declined it. When I looked it up on interflora it was GBP 34.48 + DELIVERY charge of 6.99 for a total of GBP 41.47 which is approx C$ 85.00. So I'm sitting here and finally decided I couldn't let it pass. I called Mike back at FTD intl and reminded him about the order and asked if he got someone to fill it; he said they did. I then asked him if he knew that FTD/Interflora collected approx 85.00 for the order he wanted me to fill for 52.80 and he told me he couldn't discuss that with me and then hung up.
I guess they all know how much FTD receives and that there is a large chunk that evaporates while crossing the stormy North Atlantic!!!
Anyway, I'm glad I'm no longer part of the deception.

"It's great to be FREE of FTD"

Maybe someone should....

Get this topic going over on Foxgloves the UK Florist Message board....and see what they have to say about the issue...

My guess is that they may not even know about the issue...

Done.
I tried to post "done" but it wanted at least 10 characters so here they are!!! :)
